joint pain

Posted by Frank M on September 15, 1998 at 09:16:15:

I am amazed when reading your symptoms that they are very similar to mine. Joint pain with every movement, dry skin on the ball of my feet that actually hurts when walking barefoot on a hard surface and I was tested awhile ago for Lymes. Another symptom is fatigue, especially after eating. I have tried to eat less Carbs and more protein and sometimes it helps. I was wondering if I may have the beginning of diabetes. My brother was diagnosed last year with a mild case and wonder if it could be in the family. Would you suggest having those additional blood tests and go from there? I am 54 and this has come on in the last year for unknown reasons.

Dear Frank,

Please excuse my jumping in here.

Please be sure that, if you are going to get your "possible diabetes" checked out that you do not let your doc get away with anything less than a "2 hour post-prandial blood test" having eaten a measured meal for the test & getting the blood drawn right on the 2 hour time. Anything less than that only finds 5% of the adult diabetics.

If you want to really be accurate, you will want a 5 hour glucose tolerance test with a 3 day loading prior to the test; at least 400 grams of carbohydrate (1600 calories of carbohydrate) per day for those 3 days. Any physician who doesn't know enough to do this is not worthy of your dollars (let alone your bodymind).

Walt
