the wheels of alopathic medicine do indeed turn slowly. It is incumbent upon we who seek health to spin off on our own. Thus, for those of you who did not read the previous installment, I set out to give myself a home 5 hour Glucose Tolerance Test prior to beggining the E-diet. Using nothing but this BB, the advice and guidance of those here, a 14 dollar CVS diabetes test, a stopwatch and patience I have obtained the following results. It is my hope that soemone here can help me to interpret them.
fasting Glucose 98
at 15 minutes post ingestion: 122
@ 30 min: 117
@ 45 min: 145
@ 1hr: 117
@ 1.5 hour 128
@ 2 hour: 76
@ 3 hour: 90
@ 4 hour: 101
@ 5 hour: 86
from what I can gather thisn is indicative of a reactive hypoglycimic responce. I do not, however, know what I am toalking about. Can someone give me their read? does this make me a H-G? does the fact that I was able to go the rest o fthe day comfortbly wihtout food indicatew anhything? Is the fine product I purchased to run this test too cheap to offer reliable results?
Could use all the help I can get. I just ingested the magnesium citrate and am ready for the plunge tommorow.
WK.

These are some typical curves.

First, keep in mind I am no whiz at reading such graphs, but I like to try.
Smoothing out the 3 peaks in your numbers (which I can't explain, maybe the meter isn't that accurate) gives a curve that looks between the 1-Min and 1-Max above - normal range.
Your experience is just as important as the curve. Plotting the results with symptoms you had (if any), can be helpful. (Have you suspected that you were hypoglycemic, or not?)
"These six-hour Glucose Tolerance Tests show that some people get distressed when their blood sugar is below of the normal...range. But since some people suffer distress when their blood sugar is in the normal range but falling rapidly, only one solid conclusion is possible: If dietary improvements* resolve the distress, then the cause was hypoglycemia." From Orthomolecular Psychiatry, Ed. Linus Pauling, WH Freeman, 1973 [* to this I would add, *low-carbohydrate* dietary improvements especially ]
In my opinion it looks like you are not particularly a H/G metabolism - which would show as a hypoglycemic curve, and a H/G would not be able to go the rest of the day comfortably without food AFTER this test, as you did.
I am thinking that although you have stress, you must be relatively good at handling it? A person who is right "at the edge of the cliff" would not have the reserves to handle a major sugar insult like that, no matter what metabolic type they were! Just some thoughts. Of course your e-diet experience will be the most telling about metabolic type. I will certainly learn along with you.

Meant to say "gives a curve that is between the 1-Min curve and the 1-Max curve -- i.e., normal range."

Congratulations, warner.
It is pretty hard to screw up this test so long as you get proper dietary preparation and have commercial testing supplies.
This says you are perfectly normal and can forget about this for a long time to come.

I appreciate your help both of you. I cannot say how wonderful it is to not just get help, but KNOW that the kind people on this board will help. THere i s asubtle bu important distinction in that, and in the detail is the god send. thank you both and I hope you will stay tuned as I post results of my ediet for all those who are interested not to mention my own comfort.
notes and asides:
I felt fine throughout the test. I felt racy upon ingestion of the glucose mix, but settled quickly and actually felt perhaps the best when the meter read my glucose as below resting rate. that said, the 400 gram carbo load was horrible. UCK that is so much food. I must admit that I tried to fufill the nutritional requirement with whole foods, but by day 2.5 I could not physiclly force it in any longer. So instead I tried refined carbos. I dont even like them, but of course upon ingestion it is like an addiction and like a junkie I couldnt (or did not want to) stop. by the day of the test I couldnt imiagine eating ever again.
went the whole day without food and awoke today wihtout hunger. THe Magnesim citrate lives up to its billing.
well enough for now, I fill you in more tonight or tommorrow.
thanks seem inadequate, but know that for those of us suffering, having had years of doctors telling us we are crazy, your assistance is the best gift I have recived in years.
