Diabetes

Posted by Leslie on August 19, 2003 at 07:51:56:

What are the dangers of type 2 Diabetes. My husband is on 2500 miligrams of Metformin and his sugars still do not want to come down.

How long can a person live like this?

Thanks for any help.

Hi, Leslie.

In my opinion, it sounds like your husband needs to find a more knowledgable physician! It likely is time for his doc to accept the fact that your husband has become insulin dependent. OR, he may have "Syndrome X".

It is very likley that the PWFD would drop his sugar levels so fast that he would have to stop the Metformin for a while and then be controlled better on a much smaller dose.

This is a complex problem that requires a holistic viewpoint to resolve. See the holistic practioner archives for how to find one and get copies of his medical records in your home to take for the first consultation.

The problem really is not how long can he live, which would be extremely variable for every individual, but how many crippling sequelae might happen while he is still living: amputation, debilitating strokes, heart attacks that do not have the decency to kill him--only cripple him, diabetic blindness, kidney failure, etc. There are worse things than dying!

Let us know what you learn.

Walt
