Pregnant.
That's what I have been told. And apparently the reason is because it's cleansing. So?????
Can I or can't I drink green tea during pregnancy?
I was drinking it mainly for it's ability to help control my blood sugar level after meals, as sometimes after a heavy meal or one with carbs predominantly, I would get sugar cravings, but one cup of strong green tea, woukld fix tthat.
So anyone have any other ideas what I can take to keep blood sugar levels stable, and still be safe during pregnancy????

I was a bit worried it was going to take me a while to get pregnant, as I am 34 now. But it took me about 2 weeks to get pregnant. Dang! I sure like trying though! ;-)

Isn't it amazing what you can do when you put your mind to it? Congratulations! Are you going to look into Bradley method of childbirth? I know I've suggested it before. My husband got nearly as much out of it as I did and felt truely involved in the pregnancy as well as the birth.
Hope you have a good pregnancy.

Congratulations, Blissy!!
Can you find a caffeine free green tea? I think that might have been the reason you are not supposed to drink it.

go to google. put in
abortificant herbs "green tea"
it returns only one site, a long download that has color highlights of the search terms. scan down to where green tea is covered and it'll tell you all about why not to take it. Besides being bad for pregnancy, it's bad for infant iron metabolism, and a fetus may qualify as an infant for this purpose. I didn't see anything about using it while nursing, but, to be on the safe side, I don't think you should, because of the iron metabolism thing. When you have time, read the whole download, because other herbs are bad for pregnancy- including St John's Wort and many others.

found a second bad thing in it on a website. Theo-something-interferes with iron metabolism in infants and, presumably, in fetuses.

I didn't know that. I just figured it was because of the caffeine.

Also I started taking a pregnancy vitamin/mineral suppplement as soon as we started trying, which has added iron and folic acid, and all that good stuff foetuses need to thrive.
So if iron is a problem with green tea, maybe cos i was taking the supplement wont make such a big diff????

Probably sufficient to stop early. I don't really know WHEN the baby's metabolism forms, but I would expect it to be later-maybe you can find that info in The well-pregnancy book or other book that deals with stages of the baby. I found the book a handy reference throughout pregnancy.

you might want to read The Glucose Revolution. A diet of low glycemic index foods helps avoid spikes in blood sugar. They have lists of foods and glycemic values. Also, fat and acid help reduce glycemic index. Oil and vinegar on your salad would help control some of the other food at that meal. Baked otatoes have a high glycemic index, but butter or sour cream should lower it a little. Potato chips have a lower glycemic index that baked potatoes, due to the fat in the chips. One of my kids likes yellow mustard on french fries and mustard has a lot of vinegar, plus the fat in the fries, seems to be why that doesn't affect his blood sugar much.
I've heard some cultures use vinegar on their french fries instead of ketchup (the US preference), and that would reduce their glycemic effect. Beans and pea soup or lentil soup have low glycemic effect, as does yogurt.
