good info on diabetes

Posted by ANN [1003.516] on March 06, 2005 at 19:08:32:

Thomas Smith is a reluctant medical investigator, having been forced into curing his own diabetes because it was obvious that his doctor would not or could not cure it.

He has published the results of his successful diabetes investigation in his self-help manual, Insulin: Our Silent Killer, written for the layperson but also widely valued by the medical practitioner. This manual details the steps required to reverse Type II diabetes and references the work being done with Type I diabetes. The book may be purchased from the author at PO Box 7685, Loveland, Colorado 80537, USA (North American residents send $US25.00; overseas residents should contact the author for payment and shipping instructions).

Thomas Smith has also posted a great deal of useful information about diabetes on his website, http://www.Healingmatters.com He can be contacted by telephone at +1 (970) 669 9176 and by email at valley@healingmatters.com

Ann, is his approach different from lowering carb intake? Does he offer much that we haven't discussed on this board?

his bottom line is that you can cure type 2, and some cases of type 1, by cutting out all 'junk oil'-soy,canola, etc. He believes you should do only flax and fish oil until you're better and then add the other healthy oils-butter, olive and coconut.
Planning to look for his book-haven't read it yet.
Anyway, he feels the use of all these veggie oils and margarines is contributing to the epidemic of diabetes. I find this interesting, because there has been a decline in the health of baby boomers and younger, which I have looked for causes in the cultural shifts from that time on-heavy use of vaccines and an ever changing proportion of refined carbs in the diet are two things that have happened in that time, but so has the rise of veggie oils and the decline of fish eating.

Did they used to eat much more fish? I think it would be sensible to use facts (at least, as far as the events have been documented) about other populations. For instance, Masai and others -- they didn't eat fish but weren't known to have diseases this man talks about. So, perhaps, it's not reduced fish consumption that's the culprit but the other reasons you mentioned -- related to refined food, manufactured and excessive veggie oils, and vaccines.

it's hard to separate out-when you eat more veggie oils, you eat less other fat. When you eat more carbs, you eat less protein, so there are at least two variables to look at in each change.
Fish used to be fod por people had more access to-you could go catch some or canned tuna and sardines were cheap. Then came warnings from the gov't not to eat fish more than once a week (about the same time as the egg warnings, and all before the idea of good and bad fat).
Plus, most canned fish used to come packed in fish oil, but, for a long time now, it's been packed in veggie oil or water, taking away part of the benefits of fish.
BTW, so of the benefits of fish as also in snakes and some wild game, so, for people in more primitive environments, the question wouldn't be, did they eat fish, but what DID they eat.
When Virginia was having an excess population of river snakes that had come from Asia, some advice was sought from Asian experts, who wondered why the Virginians didn't just eat them. Remember snake oil salesmen? Guess what- they were selling omega 3 oil!
