afternoon nausea

Posted by SW on November 27, 1998 at 14:35:45:

Dear Dr. Stoll, I have found that many afternoons at work about an hour and a half after lunch, I start to feel what I guess I would call kind of a wave a nausea come over me.
Sometimes I go outside for some fresh air and that seems to help (some) and recently when I started feeling this way I would drink some juice or eat a piece of fruit and that definatley seem to help. Do you think it could be related to blood sugar levels? I really have no idea, it doesn't happen everyday, but enough to start causing me some concern. Thanks

Dear SW,

Blood sugar levels are the most likely mechanism. Were I you, I would get a 5 hour glucose tolerance test (after proper preparation------------3 days of at least 400 grams of carbohydrate loading each day prior to the GTT>

Let us know what you learn.

Walt
