hi
i have had great results from eating sea weed lately. i am basically macriobiotic, so i shaould have been eating sea weed for the last three years, but i only recently began eating it.
i will say that it took a few months to become accustomed, but now that i eat it regularly, a few more symptoms are just gone ! also, finishing a day's eating with sea weed brings on an excellent night of sleep (and even more so with spinach and other greens raw).

Leon, how do you use the seaweed? I've seen several kinds at the health food store, mostly dried in sheets, but have never figured out what to do with them.
Interesting to hear that it seems to help you with a good night's sleep as ever since we moved, my husband and I have had a terrible time sleeping through the night. Would love to hear of a safe remedy.

Hi Leon,
Haven't seen you on the BB lately. Good to see you....
My daughter developed a craving for sea weed after eating
sushi rolls. How do you buy your sea weed? And how do you
eat it?

hi
thanks! nice to be back and talking again
i buy sealed bags of "MAINE COAST SEA VEGETABLES," which are not always precisely like, but close enough to, wakame, nori, kombu, etc. they have some sort of certification for better/purer handling. sadly, i feel it necessary to avoid the foreign grown and gathered sea weed. with a chemcial sensitivity issue, i would nto want to expose myself to what might be left on the weeds from god knows what sort of handling in china or where ever.
I rinse them lightly with purified water, which does remove some of the benefits, so i do it LIGHTLY. i often just eat it like that then, with a grain and other vegetables...or just snack on it alone. sometimes, i roast the weed briefly at 400 degrees in the oven. crunching on it this way was most palatable at first. (rarely , i eat it just as it comes out of the bag, but only rarely for fear of pollution/sea gull dropings-associated mold.)
i chew very very well, and notice some immediate benefits from letting it sit in my mouth for a while (oral absorbtion ?).
speaking of cravings, that makes me think of what dr stoll says about salt: salt craving is always about the need to consume more minerals. sea weed is very salty ofcourse, thougth its not just regular salt. it has a much higher minerals content, particularly iodine. and it is much better to get iodine in this natural and properly proportional way than to eat it as an additive ofcourse! !
Diane, did you see my other post about gettin a good night's sleep ? works for me...do you and your husband have issues of overstress ? if so, i might suggest that environemntal issues of the air where you sleep could play a role. is the bedroom recently built or remodeled-- walls, plaster, paint ? is the bedroom full of things like a new mattress and all new bedding ? new furniture , carpets , etc ? could you try to sleep in a room with ONLY a bed >? open windows ?
if people have a candida problem/lgs, they are often overloaded with aldehydes, which also outgas APLENTY from new materials. too much aldehyde--> very very hard to relax. Dr Rea finds this as an impedement to good sleep...

Thanks, leon.
I would be interested in hearing other's experiencs with this traditional healthy addition to variety in a PHFD.
The basic rule is: the wider the variety the better the person's general health will be. Adding sea vegetables creates a whole new dimension to variety.
Namaste`

Leon, thanks for the response. Yup, we sure do have a few stress issues - new home, new carpeting, no bedroom furniture yet, except the bed, and a room full of unpacked boxes. I think in a way we're just excited to be here. Our room has a glass slider opening out onto endless trees, mostly various pines but a few oaks. If there's a bit of a moon I can see the trees outlined against the sky but when the sun comes up it's a wonderful peaceful view - almost as good as the ocean. Actually, the last few nights we have slept better.
I do plan to find some seaweed. And, I know we need to eat better. Since starting our move, six months ago, and finally moving in about six weeks ago, we've done a lot of eating out or fast meals. Not the fresh salads and emphasis on vegetables that used to be more our habit. But, we'll get back to that.
Again, thanks for your suggestions. Oh, and yes, I did see your other post up above this one. I appreciate your taking the time to post here.
