Went in a whole foods store today.................

Its in a strip mall near a Jack in the Box.Several things struck me, the generally outrageous prices and the demeanour of the people in the place. In contrast, those waiting in line for the JITB, were a seemingly joyous bunch, unfazed that their dietary decision was easily deduced from a big colorful menu.Whole Foods was selling fresh Scottish farm raised salmon for $10.99 a pound. Costco often sells the same thing for $2.99.Whatever health benefits you get from whole foods might be lost from the stress effects of having to work extra hours to pay for it.Its only a guess, but I'd bet I'd find a lot more Prozac in the possession of WF's customers than those waiting for an evil greasy burger.Moderation in all things, what a concept.

Thanks, Amos.

About 20 years ago a study estimated that for every one cent saved by buying junk food, the person eventually paid at least a dollar for medical care, missed work, etc.

Besides, how can one price the loss of feeling of well-being over the advancing years. Most children and young people are not yet to the stage where they are going to start paying for that. No wonder they are happy.

Namaste`

Amos, that's where the work and common sense come into play. I shop at WF market all the time, and I shop at Vons when I can't find something at WF market. I spend about $140-150/week for two people. That will make all the meals we need for 7 days. That comes down to about $10 per person per day. That's A LOT cheaper than eating at JITB or other fast food restaurants and buying frozen food or fast meals at the grocery store. Just one meal for two people at a fast food restaurant comes to that much.

You have to learn how to plan your meals so that it is economically feasible to buy the good stuff. It really is not that hard and WF market is not that expensive if you take the time to do some investigation and buy the right items. The most expensive thing I buy and splurge on is the Rosie chicken and the New Zealand beef. Next it would be raw milk, cheese and eggs. The rest is produce that I buy organic. If they don't have organic, then I buy it at Vons if I feel WF market is too expensive for the conventionally grown produce. Most of the time WF market is competitive or better priced than the other markets and I don't have to make an extra trip.
