whole foods diet

Posted by Lak on February 01, 2003 at 11:56:52:

Dr. Stoll...

I have fms/cfs. I have recently started the whole foods diet(2 1/2 weeks ago) and don't feel any better--I have been perfectly following the diet. I excersise regularly, and am just starting sr. I currently am taking the perfect food supplement, ester-c and just started primal defense-1 tablet per day to start.

My question is-to start the elimination part of the diet, would it be better to start a water fast for 4 days and then start reintroducing foods back into my diet per the books recommendation?

Also, besides going to the dr. for tests-is there a way to know if I have candida. I've read your book and have searched the archives, but I didnt really find anything concrete that states-if these are your symptoms-you may have candida.

I'm hoping w/in the next few weeks to have a phone consultation w/you to get it all straight, but in the mean-time would like to have a little relief now.

Thanks

Hi Lak,

First, it can take several months before the whole foods diet has noticable effects. It all depends on your genetics, your imbalances, level of bracing, and how long you have had these problems. Also, you are just starting your SR and supplements. You have quite a ways to go so don't be dissapointed.

In my opinion, there is no way to know for sure if you have candida without testing. Questionaires are inaccurate because almost everyone has been on at least one 7-day course of antibiotics which fails most people on the questionaire. If you can't afford testing, it's ok to just ASSUME you have candida and treat the problem. Fortunately, with SR, whole foods diet, and the supplements you are on, candida elimination is a natural side-effect. See, removing the LGS destroys the environment that candida loves. If you decide to test yourself, the CDSA is the best candida test available to the general public without a doctors visit.

I know your post was meant for Dr. Stoll but this should help until he gets around to your post. Take Care

-HY

Hi, Lak.

I would really lilke to see a food diary for a week before suggesting the elimination/provocation trial. I know that this will take a week longer but it could really help in the long run.

In my experience, the fast at this stage would only confuse matters--even though it might help your symptoms.

Hope this helps.

Walt

Well. Dr. Stoll. I kept a food diary for 1week(a few days missed), but a total of 7days food.
day 1. soy milk, cashews, grapefruit, white beans/brown rice, yogurt, papaya, lentils/brown rice/onion.
day 2. oat bran w/ground flax seeds, apple, lentil/brown rice/onion, yogurt, baked sweet potato, grapefruit
day 3. oat bran w/flax seeds, apple, pear, banana, zucchini/brown rice/onion/tofu/sour cream
day 4. oat bran w/flax seeds, soy milk, strawberries, rye crisp/peanut butter/banana, lentils/brown rice/onion/yogurt, grapefruit
day 5. oat bran w/flax seeds, 2 apples, rye krisp w/cheddar cheese, brown rice w/mixed veggies/cheese
day 6. rye krisp/peanut butter, oat bran, banana, bown rice w/mixed veggies/cheese, yogurt
day 7. oat bran w/flax seeds, rye krisp/peanut butter/banana, brown rice/mixed veggies/cheese
I do use sea salt, olive/safflower oils and butter, also, for snacks I may have cashews or walnuts, but I try to keep the high fat foods to a reasonable amnt--am also trying to lose weight and have lost weight with this eating style.
Anything that is packaged--such as peanut butter, rye krisp and yogurt are all ok'd per the perfect foods book.

I can see that I definitely need more veggies.

Please advise me. I know I'm doing something wrong because as of tomorrow I will have been on the diet for 1month and am feeling no better.

I'm also taking the perfect foods supp, primal defense, ester-c, evening primrose oil and food enzymes for digestion.

Sorry, this turned into a short novel. I do appreciate your taking the time to read thru this and for any advice.

Thank you again.

Thanks, Lak.

I REALLY would be interested in what you ate on those "missed" days but just with what I have here is is pretty apparent what is going on.

To get the quick results, without the withdrawal, you would have to eliminate the fruit. You had significant fruit every day.

I also have a question about the yogurt: Was it plain?

I agree that you need more vegies but that is for longer term benefits and has nothing to do with how you feel now.

At least you are losing weight so it has not been a total loss. I think that the likelyhood is that by just cutting out the fruit you will begin to notice changes within a few days. If not, it will be time to start selective elimination/provocation without changing anything else. Dairy would be the first to test.

Let us know how you do.

Walt
