Hi,
I posted a message a couple of days ago asking people who were perfect on the WFD to share their experiences, especially, what are the results you have experienced. Nobody answered -- am I the only one perfect on the diet?
Okay, then, how about some input from those who are doing the liberal WFD?
Best wishes,
Happygal

Lack of replies doesn't necessarily mean absence of people who are on these diets. They simply might not feel like writing about it.
IMO, WFD is too vague. One could kill oneself with a wrong type of WFD.

Hi, HG.
I think R. is right in saying that not responding doesn't necessarily means not doing it. On this subject, I believe I've posted a zillion times about whole foods and their benefits, some of which in great detail. So as far as I'm concerned, I didn't feel like rehash over and over again on something that's pretty obvious--almost to the point of truism--if one has been visiting this BB for some time.
Ok. I've been eating 95% perfect whole foods since 1997. (the 5% processed food comes from an occasional dine out, or an occasional treat of white rice porridge or pasta, pizza, chocolate, etc.) For me, this is as perfect a diet as I can imagine and I've reaped incredible benefits on the physical level, mental level, and spiritual level.
My diet consists of (calory-wise) about 80% whole grains, 15% fish/eggs/beef/chicken/butter/nuts/seeds/beans etc., and 5% vegetables--mostly of the leafy greens variety. I snack on fruits and sometimess nuts and seeds. 80-90% of my food is organic (I can't find organic fish or other seafood. So is the beef/chicken.) Also, I don't take any supplement of any kind. Hope this helps.

Happygal,
I started the PWFD back on Jan 9th.
Within 2 weeks, the plantar faciitis which I had been suffering from for 2+ years disappeared. My asthma has become almost non-existant. Pounds were dropping off me with no effort. I'm not under the care of an alternative practioner, I haven'so I havent tried to go off my asthma meds.
I am disappointed in the lack of variety I now have with the diet. I'm eating foods that most here on the board have cautioned against like organic chicken, o. tomatoes & true free-range eggs, o. whole wheat, etc. I'm not a real adventurous eater so I haven't tried some of the more exotic vegetables.
I'm not planning on liberalizing until I've done a thorough colon cleanse, liver flush, and only after rebuilding the good bacteria in my gut. Maybe by peach season (July/August), I'll try some fruit.
I had a birthday 3rd week of April, I did cheat by eating a very slim piece of homemade cake... I did't notice any adverse effects from the cake and small dollop of Breyers vanilla ice cream(keeping fingers crossed).

Perfect whole food diet is simply impossible to follow all the time.
How do you do when you need to eat in a restaurant or when friends invite you for dinner? What do you drink with friends that go have a beer somewhere? A glass of chlorinated tap water!
I follow it most of the time, except at Christmas, at New year day, at Easter, when it's my birthday, when it's the birthday of my wife, when it's the birthday of my mother, when I need to eat in a restaurant that I can't always choose if I am travelling or because I go eat with 12 of my job colleages, or simply when I want to have a glass of wine...
Finally, there are tons of situations leading to cheating.
PWFD translate to NO SOCIAL LIFE.
Just totally avoiding beer (because of my candida problem) has already destroyed my social life for the most part.
Give me a break.

Yep, you are right Serge, I've basically stopped eating out.
Since January I've eaten out 3 times, I ordered "safe" foods...it does put a crimp in any social dining.

I have been on PWFD since January 1998. The last two years I have 'liberalised' it, in a sense that I don't worry if I have to eat out. Most times, I am able to get a satisfying meal (not afraid of making fussy orders :)). At home, I eat two cooked meals a day, always made of perfect whole foods. I do eat cheese and I buy (good quality) bread, but avoid eating too much bread. Two slices a day are OK. Am fond of scandinavian 'dry breads' of the kind Ryvita produces.
I like variation. I have a mixed type metabolism, and the major discovery was that I don't only like variation, I need to eat a bit of everything to feel well. After being on a strict anti-candida diet for about a year, I didn't want to fall prey to orthorexia. That's why I try to eat 'everything'. I love eating exotic vegetables and fruits; I've never had a bad reaction to something new. There are a few foods that bother me, but those I just avoid, for instance starchy foods. But there is an exception. I find that I tolerate well almost all of the foods I ate in my childhood, starchy or not. A simple meal of beef, potatoes and salad never fails to make me happy.
Sometimes I drink a glass of wine. I do it mostly for the reasons of socialising, because alcohol always seems to tip my metabolic balance. I never crave it. During my year in Australia, I only had 1 glass of wine, and never missed it.
Eating sugar after about 3 years was an interesting experience. The only things I tried were some kinds of cake and biscuits. An apple pie was OK. But cookies (just one or two) were a disaster. I can't digest the stuff. It was great to test this and not to have a desire to have more of it or often. Talking of digestion, one thing I can't take is - soup. I don't understand this, actually. Soup turns into stone in my intestines. Weird as it is, there is nothing to do but abstain.
I think it is important to eat a variety of things, and find out what you tolerate and in what amounts (the optimal ratio of proteins, fats and carbohydrates). I always prefer fresh produce, and organic - as long as I can afford it.
Lastly my husband has been doing the same as me, and although he was not ill to begin with, he has experienced big improvement in general condition. We don't find it difficult at all. We have never eaten better food, really. Both of us have become quite good at making good food, and the restaurant experience became even somewhat disappointing.
The most important - and difficult - thing was to see the world through new eyes. To me, the processed foods are now near to non-existent in the store. Some of the things I used to buy, I now regard as poison. Occasionally I do get upset, like when I see children who scream at the register because they can't get their Coke fast enough, or when I think about the junk people are made to believe is food.
Well, enough rambling. Hope this helps.

I've been eating a nearly PWFD for years and I still have LGS, Candida, CFS and fibro. What can I say?!

Thanks, Naya.
I have not yet seen anyone who could resolve these conditions with diet alone. If you are only going to do one thing it should be SR.

Thanks, Serge C.
When I was first learning about holistic medicne, I did the PWFD perfectly for nearly 3 years before letting up a little. SO, I KNOW it is not "impossible". It got easier every month I did it. The trick is to do it for a few months to SEE if it is worth the bother for YOU.

See sometimes the simplest posts are the most important. Have been doing whole foods diet, anticandida for 9 months and has not changed my IC one bit. But no verified SR 20 mins a day, twice a day.

I've been doing SR consistently for over a year now as well.

Thanks, Naya, and everyone.
It was really helpful to read your varying experiences with the diet.
Best wishes,

Thanks, Naya.
If there is not a flaw in your program I am at a loss.
Please describe, exactly, what you have been doing, when you started it and what symptomatic effects you have noticed (good or bad).
You should be well!
