Hi Laura,
It sounds like a blessing in disguise to me. If she never learns how to eat sugar, she could develop a taste for all whole, natural foods.
Are you reading every label to make sure that you are not giving her anything with sugar added? The manufacturers of course use words like dextrose, fructose, etc. (words ending in -ose) and people often don't know that there is actually sugar in the product.
I don't eat any sugar and have been off fruit for the last eight months too. I feel much better. It's a good thing.
Best wishes,
Happygal

Laura,
It seems that your 3 year old's metabolism is smarter than both you and your docs!
There are hundreds of things at the grocery store that trigger the same Kreb's Cycle as the "sugar"; they just do not do it so quickly so most people never notice it.
Get a copy of Beth Loiselle, RD's book and take it to the store with you. Use it to give away all the "foods" in your refrig and cupboard so the poor little thing has nothing but the PWFD to eat.
Current statistics show that in less than 20 years, more than one in three people in this country will be diabetic.
Let us know what you learn and how she does.
Walt
