Evaporated Cane Juice allowed on PWFD???

Posted by Scott80 [12281.1351] on October 16, 2008 at 15:55:25:

I found this ingredient on an organic pasta sauce (no sugar or -ose) that I recently bought.

Now, Walt says granualated cane juice is a no-no in "Recapturing Your Health". Is there a difference between granulated and evaporated that would make one refined and the other whole?

Thanks as always for your responses!!!

Hi Scott,

Evaporated cane juice is just another form of sugar. Not allowed on the PWFD.

Best wishes,
Jan

Thanks, Jan.

You are right! The only way he could get away with this is if he ate the whole sugar cane.

Not exactly, Walt. Unrefined, whole evaporated cane juice is a whole food, by any standard. It is whole sugar cane without the water (evaporated). Very healthy, if you know how to use it--just like any other whole foods.

Sorry, Actually.

By definition, cane juice is refined. The only way to eat sugar, safely, is by eating the whole cane bite by bite!.

Not exactly, Walt. The fiber in mature sugar canes is like wood. Even when humans do eat sugar cane bite by bite, they have to spit out the fiber after chewing it for the juice, because the fiber is inedible. In this case, removing the fiber from the cane is similar to removing the banana peel before you eat a banana, or the peach stone when you eat a peach.

Thanks, With.

What that means is the sugar in ANY form is a no no when trying to break the sugar addiction. Is this so important to you because your addiction is strong"?

I am aware that eating the cane is pretty hard. You COULD put it through a blender (if you were desperate enough) but even that would be refined, in a way, and so still trigger the addictive response.

Walt
