perfect whole foods diet

Oops, I think I've been cheating! At my local whole foods store I discovered these delicious All Natural Carob Coated Donuts, but the 2nd ingredient is "concentrated fruit juices (apple, pineapple, grape)." Is that a no-no in the PWFD? Also, what about tortilla chips that are "organic whole kernel white corn?" And, finally, is dry cereal ok as long as the ingredients "check out?" Denise P.

Oops! Concentrated juice is not a healthy thing, they heat the juice and it takes out the enzymes and when it is concentrated it turns it into a sugar;
Chips, well they are fried [hopefully with better oils], but it is not considered a good food for cleansing the system. Every snacks on these things once in awhile, but all the one's you mentioned are not foods that help the body detox if that is what you want to do; One thing that was o.k. though was the white corn on the cob; Dry cereral is not that great for you and it is best to eat cooked whole grain, if not on a cleansing diet then o.k. once in awhile; Most Dry cererals have sugars of some kind in them; At this time I'm on a cleansing dietto help my system as the weather is changing, i'm on fruit and veggies and potatoes amd veggie juices and no grain and only on fish and small amounts of nuts for protein. Good luck to you;

"whole foods" are just that. WHOLE FOODS. before eating it, browse through this checklist:

1) Does it grow on a tree?
2) Does it come from the ground?
3) Can I kill it, cook it, and eat it?

If the answer is YES, you have a "whole food" in your hand. Now, tell me, what tree do "corn chips" grow on? I have never seen a "corn chip bush". Lastly, "corn chips" were never alive. Therefore, it is NOT a whole food. Whole foods are foods that are the same in nature as they are when they hit your plate (with the exception of meat becuause you HAVE TO cook it). If the food you are about to eat comes in a box, and has ingredients listed on it, you do not have a whole food because some guy somewhere made this food artificially. Things were added, things were taken out, and what is left is nowhere NEAR a whole food. Having said that, consider this.....

When I hear that someone is going to follow a "PERFECT whole foods diet". I know right away that this person is going to fail. I know this because nobody can do ANYTHING perfectly all the time. This is what makes us human. What happens when you just happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and you don't have any whole foods on you? You are so hungry you can't stand it? Well, you most likely eat the closest thing you can find to a whole food. Once this happens, you feel guilty that you have "cheated". I commend anybody for attempting to eat ONLY whole foods ALL the time. But in reality, this is just not likely to happen ALL the time. It's like starting that perfect diet, that perfect exercise program, or that perfect relationship. Don't set yourself up to fail by asking so much of yourself. Eat a MOSTLY whole foods diet. When those times come that you couldn't do it, don't despair. It is not going to be a matter of life and death if you messed up here or there (unless you have a serious allergy to the food. In that case, life and death IS the issue and you must avoid that food at all costs. But then again, it is only ONE or TWO foods at most. This doesn't put a huge burden on you as does eating only unadultered foods at all times).

People start making themselves crazy by checking every little ingredient on packaged foods trying to make a whole food out of "Nutritious Creations Vegan Cookie" and things like this. To me, it is not worth it. The hastle far outweighs any possible benefit of doing the diet 100% perfectly. Do it 95% perfectly. You will add years to your life just be de-stressing. If you follow the diet 95% correctly, that 5% is not going to harm your health.

Hope this helps some of the whole food dieteres out there. My words come from experience. I tried to do it perfectly for more than 2 years. My will power is very strong. I have gone on 7-10 day distilled water fasts and have survived. Most people have never gone even a single day without food. So, my words do not come from a frustrated person who couln't handle the whole foods diet. Quite to the contrary, I did it perfect for more than 1 year. The stress was so high (even with SR) that I couldn't take it. So, one day a week, Usually Sunday, I cheat on the diet. This gives me the strength to follow another perfect week. My health has not suffered and I can still enjoy some foods that most of us were brought up on. Many people have emotional connections to certain foods. You know, that hot chocolate your mom used to bring you when you were sick or when you came in out of the snow. That icecream cone your dad would take you to get when you were feeling blue. I don't know about you, but even though I strive to be healthy, and I know that many of these foods cause health problems, I would love to be able to enjoy some of these foods once in a while. I believe this is possible without causing health problems. There may be "healthy" foods that your are eating right now that may contribute to health problems. All those soybeans may not be as healthy as we thought, how about all of those protein powders on the market or even some vitamins out there. The point is, anything overdone will lead to problems. I found that when I moved to this perfect whole foods diet, I became depressed. I couldn't figure out why. Finally, I figured out that I didn't enjoy being PERFECT all the time. So, hence, my cheat day was born. I still get 9-11 servings of vegetbales every day, I get my Omega 3's, some fruit, legumes, nuts, seeds, and a little organic meat 3x a week. My diet is better than most people in america. I deserve a little forbidden treat and I believe you do to. I believe that the vast amounts of fresh produce in your diet will protect you from that occasional ice cream or chcolate bar that you have (if you keep it to no more than once a week).

I hope this helps someone else out there that may be feeling to overwhelmed with it all. For all the rest of you that are doing your PERFECT whole foods diet with no problems, GOD bless you!! :)

I'm trying to stay on the "Perfect Diet" only for the 3-4 months Dr. Stoll's book recommends for healing. I've been chronically ill (mainly low-grade fevers & fatigue)for about 6 years and am desperate! I agree that there is nothing enjoyable about being "Perfect!" For me, though, I feel I must be as close to "Perfect" as I can get in order to have a chance at ending some of my chronic problems. For now I am enjoying being as close to Perfect as I can get because I am feeling the best I have felt in a long time!

Thanks, Denise.

You WOULD get significantly more benefits if you were perfect but you eventually will get the same results the way you are going.

Thanks for the encouragement! I feel I am living by "the book" (Beth's), but innocently slip on occasion. This is my summer "project," which will most definitely carry over to fall! Denise
