So many of the helpers on your board seem to recommend such extreme diets. What is your opinion about this?
1) Do you think its healthy to eat raw meat as some of them suggest?
2) Is a vegetarian diet healthy? Some of these people are saying you HAVE to have meat and that vegetarians aren't healthy.
3) What are your feelings on the caveman diet? Seems a bit extreme and I can't imagine how you'd get all the nutrients you'd need from it. Not to mention, it sounds boring.
From what I've read on your site, you seem to recommend a whole foods diet, which would include a variety of foods as long as they are whole, is that correct? Fruits, vegetables, organic meats and such? Do you follow a whole food diet? Could you give us an idea of what you eat in a day? Do you ever cheat and eat something bad for you, like cake on your birthday or chocolate at Easter?
Thanks!

Hi,
there are many different diet suggestions on the BB because you have many different people all with different body types and needs. What works for one person might not work for another. We are all unique individuals, so you have to find what works for you and what your needs are.
I started with the anti-candida diet and found that it works really well for my body and so I have stuck with it.
Walt recommends the Whole foods diet and probably uses that one too. I think the most important thing about diet is
you find one that is healthy that promotes good health and healing in your body and you can live with it.
It can be overwhelming changing your diet, so take it a step at a time.

Your last questions should probably be accompanied by an inquiry about Dr. Stoll's previous and current health challenges so that you can be in a better position to assess efficacy of his approach. Not that it will provide you with all the information you need as there are other factors other than the diet, but it should still help.

that's why the diets may seem extreme. Those who benefit from them usually have a problem of some sort that they are trying to cure.
As far as I've seen, Dr. Stoll does not really recommend a specific diet for EVERYONE because he will be the first to tell you that we are all very different when it comes to our dietary needs.
As far as everyone needing meat - you might have misunderstood - perhaps my saying that *I* MUST eat meat to be healthy. I am not saying that YOU must eat meat to be healthy...I usually feel the need to point my own needs out when a vegetarian solution is being presented for a problem.
So, although the caveman diet may not have all the nutrients that YOU need, it may be fine for someone else...same with vegetarianism or any other diet.
Whole foods seems extreme compared to what everyone else is eating. In reality, what the rest of the world eats is extreme - extreme garbage mostly!! ;-)

Eeally, Really :>) [I just could not resist.]
The only real test (so far) of what is the best diet for any individual is for one to try until one finds what makes her feel best.
The day will come (it looks like within the next 10 years) when tests will be able to predict which diet will be the best for each individual BEFORE they learn to eat it.
As labrat has suggested: extreme conditions routinely are resolved by extreme diets. What one has to understand is that there is a big difference between "therapeutic" diets and "maintenance" diets.
With our commercially grown meat I think it pretty risky to eat raw meat! Statistically, vegetarians are a lot healthier than meat eaters in ALL cultures. Learn to use spices and any diet will be tasty and not boring.
I started out with a strict PWFD 25 years ago. I have never suggested to any patient any diet that I had not first tried out for myself! I gradually drifted into being a vegetarian--something I have observed in many people that were happy and healthy on the PWFD.
For the past few years I find that "breaking over", occasionally, is not only fun but does not make me feel bad.
However, it IS like playing with fire, it is very easy to go back to cravings and feeling bad. SO, at least for me it is a risk every time I do it.
Hope this helps.
Walt

"Statistically, vegetarians are a lot healthier than meat eaters in ALL cultures."
Dr. Byrnes at http://www.powerhealth.net/ would disagree with that and be able to support that with statistics:
- THE MYTHS OF VEGETARIANISM
- Debate between Dr. Byrnes and a vegetarian promoter Dr. Michael Janson
We need to define what the word vegetarian means. If it's what it should mean based on the word's root, it would be one who eats plant based food only (vegetation). I've not heard of a single people that lives on plant based food only and maintains vibrant health for a long time. All peoples consume some animal based food, be it milk, eggs, meat, fish, etc. According to Weston Price's research, vegetarians are not healthier than meat eaters at all. But he researched native peoples, those isolated from civilizations. As a matter of fact, he didn't find any healthy peoples that were vegetarians. At least, I don't remember him report about one.

Thanks for your input. Since doing the whole foods diet, I don't seem to have the taste for meat anymore. I'd much rather sink my teeth into a juicy piece of fruit or eat a salad. I don't even seem to have much a taste anymore for cooked vegetables either. Raw and crunchy! But after reading some posts on here, I thought maybe I was doing myself a disservice by not eating meat since they say that vegetarians are unhealthy and that meat is in. Its also nice to know that you 'break over'.
