I have been on the following diet since March of last year:
Brown Rice, vegtables, raw and cooked, fruit, fish/meat/chicken, yams, eggs, almond milk, and rye crackers. I do not eat dairy products except butter.
When I began this diet I felt great and wasn't hungry, didn't have food binges......did great overall........
I'm going through something right now where I'm hungry all the time.....my stomach hurts a little while after eating.
I take enzymes after meals. I take flora source in the mornings. I have ordered the book Nourishing traditions for more ideas on food....hopefully......
Any suggestions? I feel like I'm missing something.

“CANDIDA/LEAKY GUT DIET”
WHAT YOU CAN EAT!
PROTEIN - Tofu, cold water fish like salmon, tuna (only once a week), turkey, chicken breast, lamb, and veal.
DAIRY - Eggs, low fat cottage cheese, yogurt, and Turkish cheese.
GRAINS - Brown rice, millet, buckwheat, and oats (if your not allergic).
VEGGIE FIBER - Asparagus, cabbage, broccoli, spinach, kale, lettuce, yams, beets, string beans, peas, carrots (not many), cucumbers, sauerkraut, onions, and garlic. NOTE: Juice your veggies if you can – you’ll take in more nutrition this way!
FRUITS – (Only one fruit per day) Pineapples, apples, pears, raspberries, blueberries, grapes, and bananas.
NOTE: Fruits should be eaten “ALONE” for breakfast!
NUTS - Almonds, macadamia nuts, cashews, and sesame seeds.
OILS - Extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil, organic butter, and sesame oil.
Pasta and Veggie Salads
Salad Dressing – It’s best to use olive oil or low fat salad dressing and instead of pouring it on your salad – just dip your fork in it – this cuts down on the amount that you consume.
NOTES:
To keep from adding more “STRESS” in your life – eat a desert on Wednesdays and Saturdays if you feel that you must!
Eat all Veggies either cooked or steamed!
Chew your food thoroughly before swallowing it!
Eat 4 to 6 small meals per day – rather than 3 large ones!
(Eating only one food item per meal - is much better for digestion)
Be careful with Soy products – most people are allergic to them!
Pick out 10 food items that you like and rotate them on a daily bases!
Do Not Over Eat – it’s very destructive to the digestive tract.
Use honey as a natural sweeteners but very sparingly!
Drink “ONLY” distilled water with mineral drops added or spring water! Drink 8 to 10 glasses per day.
Drink all liquids at room temperature!
Realize that food is “FUEL” for your body – not just for tasteful pleasure!
“HOW TO MAKE A BREAKFAST SMOOTHIE”
Put these items in a blender and mix:
One small banana
Half cup of blueberries
One cup of organic yogurt
Three teaspoons of whey powder
Two teaspoons of Greens Today powder supplement
One package of knox gelatin
Three teaspoons of designer protein powder
(Add water to fill blender to top)
FOODS AND DRINKS TO AVOID!
NO – Red Meat (the cows are feed grain and antibiotics), NO – Pork.
NO – Tomatoes or Tomato Sauce (to acidic).
NO – Sugar or sugar substitutes (it has no nutrional value except to feed your candida – consider it to be a toxic poison).
NO – Chocolate (like sugar – it’s a toxic poison that’s not fit for Human consumption).
NO – Potatoes (they convert to sugar after digestion).
NO – Breads or White Flour products (they are just fillers - which have no nutritional value and cause constipation).
NO – Wheat or Grains (anyone with a leaky gut is usually highly allergic to grains).
NO – Mushrooms, peppers or melons (they are moldy).
NEVER DRINK – Milk (it causes mucus to form in the intestinal tract and it contains antibiotics).
NO – Coffee (even decaf), tea, soda pop, orange juice or alcohol (these drinks are all to acidic – which is terrible for a person with an inflamed leaky gut).
* S.H.A.P.E. *

NO – Red Meat (the cows are feed grain and antibiotics)
Then you should also say "NO - plant based food (crops are sprayed with harmful chemicals)"

Are you getting enough fats in your diet? Sometimes getting enough fats is associated with satisfying hunger.

The only fats I get is olive oil on salads and
maybie a tblsp of butter a day if that.

Doesn't sound like much. But you forgot fat in fish/meat/chicken and eggs. Still may be too little. Maybe you can find something usefull on this topic at Weston Price Foundation site. Here's result of a search there: http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&q=site:www.westonaprice.org+how+much+fat

Perhaps you should try adding a little more and see if that helps.

Did you say since March last year?
You may have a 'mixed metabolism' and have been following the same pattern for too long a time. This is something I have only recently began to understand.
People with that type of metabolism should eat both red and white meats, all types of vegetables etc. The key is variation, and not too much of anything. If they eat a fairly monotonous diet, they end up in one of the extremes (alkaline or acidic) and don't feel well.
A lot has been written here about hunter-gatherer and agriculturalist type of diet, but not so much about the mixed type. I was too long on an anti-Candida diet, and developed new digestive problems, as I simply did not know how to eat 'normally' again. This doesn't have to be the case with you, but you may consider the idea?

Hi, Barb.
Everyone's suggestions were so good that I hesitated to say anything. HOWEVER, remember that, when people radically change their diet, within a few months they become a different person. What was their ideal diet in the beginning may not be their ideal diet now. It can take years to finally settle on what is the ideal diet for the REAL you.
Hope this helps.

I've noticed some politically correct ideas here that I felt I should comment on. First off, generally, you are right on the money. However, there are a few points that may be counterproductive for the person that is trying to heal a leaky gut.
First, you seem to have chosen the "leanest" cuts of meats available and suggest no red meat or organ meats. The problem with this, is that ONLY animal foods contain vitamin A in a usable form which is required to heal a leaky gut. The best sources of vitamin A are liver, other organ meats, egg yolks, and butter. If we only eat lean cuts of meat, we will not ge the fat-soluble vitamins to heal the gut AND the protein will not be absorbed well leading to a worsening of the leaky gut. If one purchases organic or grass-fed beef and organ meats, the contaminations are virtually eliminated.
You also listed tofu which is a non-fermented soy product. This can create imbalanced in the glandular system.
Under dairy, you once again listed "low-fat" as the best choice. For some maybe, but for most, this is not ideal. The fat-soluble vitamins are needed to absorb the proteins. Eating protein without fat is a great way to worsen immune reactions because less protein is being absorbed and more proteins are getting into the bloodstream
The grains you listed are fine but they must be soaked overnight or they can worsen intestinal problems.
The fruits you listed are generally excelent but pineapple, banana, and grapes may be too high in sugar for those with severe candida. also, I agree that they should be eaten alone but berries can be mixed with raw yogurts and many fruits can be eaten with raw cheeses.
Nuts should be soaked
The salad dressing made from olive oil is a good start but I would hate the taste of just olive oil on my salad. Low-fat is also not the answer. Make your salad-dressings at home from raw egg yolk, olive oil, flax oil, herbs, celtic sea salt, and you can use beet kvass in place of vinegar. This salad dressing is 100% raw and will contribute to the digestion of the salad and help absorb the minerals.
I also have to disagree with the 1 food item per meal. Nobody on the planet has ever eaten this way. Most traditional cultres combined foods, even in ways that must of US would consider strange but these people had excelent digestive status-----fish and oats, meat and milk are two examples. Now, that doesn't mean that we should eat combos like that but certainly eating a meat/vegetable with butter or oil is not a poor combination. If one also consumes a raw salad with raw dressing, that will contribute to the digestion of the entire meal. Most people need only to avoid the worst combination for westerners---fruits and vegetbales, fruits and meats, concentrated starches and proteins, and meat with milk. Eating protein--vegetable or starch--vegetbale with oil or butter is not only nutritionally sound but digestively as well. Eating only 1 food item per meal means that only 6 items are eaten per day. This doesn't contain the calories nor the nutrients to sustain life
Choosing only to consume 10 foods over and over again will creat allergies. Aim to choose more than 50 different food items. Most people eat only 25 food items over and over again. That's a great way to create nutritional deficiencies as well. We also get exposed to the same pesticides and other contaminants and that in and of itself can cause problems
Reverse osmosis and a carbon block filter is better than distilled for every day drinking. Distilled water is basically "dead". Look at it under the microscope and nobody will refute it. Distilled water is helpful in detoxification only.
Lastly, I need to disagree with the "NEVER DRINK MILK". Yes, it is very mucous-forming but the milk you are refering to is pastuerized, homogenized and full of hormones, antibiotics and other crap. Fresh, RAW, organic milk from pasture-fed animals has helped people thrive for thousands of years, especially CULTURED RAW milk. Many experiments have shown raw milk to be superior in every way to pastuerized milk, especially goat's milk. Many people will say that they are allergic to goat's milk becuase they were muscle-tested for it or it came up on a food allergy test but 99% of people are dealing with PASTUERIZED goats milk not raw. Also, the antigens that blood attaches to in the lab are on regular store-bought goat milk not raw. Makes you wonder how many other foods we are supposedly "allergic" to aren't really allergic reactions at all but are merely rejectged by the body because the FORM the food is in is NOT what the body was designed to take in.
Sorry I had to make such as big event from this but experience has taught me otherwise. 5 years ago, I would have rattled off the same list but experience has now taught me differently. Feel free to comment on my comments. I welcome it.

I think your right about the anti-candida diet. I stayed on it for this long because it was simple to do and for a long time was great with my digestion. Now I'm hungry for more flavor...
I did read the hunter-gatherer/agricuturalist diets when I first came on the BB. I got started on the anti-candida
diet and it worked so well (until now) I just stayed with it.
I am also very bored.
Thanks for your suggestions.

Well Put! Thanks! Now on water, i think i'll try a different one also instead of always drinking distilled and adding minerals to it [which i forget a lot]; I'm on a cleansing food plan now though and better continue awhile longer i guess until i finish it; I was dehydrated and i' now using a spring water from a warm mineral springs added to distilled and it is helping so much; Any info on why not distilled or why the other way with water would be appreciated on board thanks! Was more concerned with the toxins in the water rather then being dead, i guess!

Here are two views:
One from http://naturalpurewater.com/distilled_myths.htm
This is a partial post:
"MYTH # 2: Distilled Water leaches minerals from your body.
What the proponents of this myth want you to believe is that because distilled water is so pure, drinking it will leach minerals from your body, thereby robbing you of good health and nutrition. There is no basis of fact to document this claim.
The national best-selling health and diet book, : "Fit for Life II: Living Health" by Harvey & Marilyn Diamond, answers this question. The following is an excerpt:
"Distilled water has an inherent quality. Acting almost like a magnet, it picks up rejected, discarded, and unusable minerals and, assisted by the blood and the lymph, carries them to the lungs and kidneys for elimination from the body. The statement that distilled water leaches minerals from the body has no basis in fact. It doesn't leach out minerals that have become part of the cell structure. It can't and won't. It collects only minerals that have already been rejected or excreted by the cells...To suggest that distilled water takes up minerals from foods so that the body derives no benefit from them is absurd." "
And a more thorough why you should not drink from here:

That reminded me of what seems to have happened to me. After I went on an anti-Candida diet, I stopped tolerating sweet fruits and veggies, grains, nuts, etc. On the other hand, I used to have frequent skin breakouts, and now I don't. So, maybe I couldn't tolerate those foods before either and just didn't know about it.
Sonja, what new digestive problems did you develop while on anti-Candida diet?

diets?
