I'm sorry Dr. Stoll, I know you posted this before but could you post again your usual daily diet. I couldn't find it in archives. Also, I think you said you have a dog. What is your dog's diet. Thank you. I should have written it down the first time you posted it.

Rare meat and NO dairy or wheat. Hypersensitivity to those two (my favorite foods) really upset my diabetes. Mainly vegetables and rice--some fruits. I make a wonderful, organic, totally vegetarian chili (takes at least 3 days to make with sprouting and all) and a wonderful and easy red lentil soup.

My dog gets home made organic food.

How often do you eat rare meat? Are you eating the grassfed variety? I would like to try this ,but it seems my only access is via the internet. Have you had any feeback on any of these companies?

Do you only buy organic produce? Also, since you eat lentils and rice I take it you don't subscribe to the Paleo (hunter/gatherer diet (for yourself) that I keep hearing about, since those foods have only been eaten for the most recent 10,000 years of man's 100,000 or so existance. Lastly, for your dog's organic diet, do you follow a certain published recipe or did you make it up yourself? Does it contain raw meat? Thank you. I hope you will answer all my questions. I understand that we're all individuals and that what works for one doesn't always work for another, but I do greatly value your opinion (as demonstrated by your personal choices).

Never rare and when I used ot eat it regularly I always tried to get grass fed (rarely possible 20 years ago). Even my dad, who raised some beef, started it out on grass and then finished it up in the feedlot. Of course, back then I did not know any better!

In order:
1. When I can get it. This community has little opportunity for it and I am too lazy to drive the about 100 miles it would take to get to a better market. Things like basic foodstuffs (dried beans, rice, freeze dried vegies, etc, that I can use to make my own (I like to cook.) I do get organic.
2. I used the trial and error system (long ago--before I knew about these exotic diets) to figure out which diet made me feel the best. I very occasionally spill over and pay the consequences--I still am human, you know.
I am convinced that the "exotic diets" can only be guidelines--the trial and error way is still the only sure way to choose I know of.
3. I follow the home prepared recipe from the "Whole Dog Journal" (previous isues available from the publisher--see the vet archives). The recipe I chose does not use raw meat.

Betcha anything it's "Bean Supreme" in Beth's book. Recipe is a winner. Sadly, I must swear off it as immunolab shows me allergic to tomatoes, kidney beans, pinto beans, and chili pepper !!!

type of food. When I get a headache while
eating a danish somewhere but nowhere else, I
know something must be wrong with the
ingredients or handling and what others would
consider junk causes no problem.

I couldn't pass up some baklava at this
restaurant I went to and I can eat everything
that goes in them with no problems but I got
bad stomach aches after that lasted a few
days. Toast seems to be the only thing they
make that doesn't bother me but their butter
is usually been warm so long it is melted and
ran to one side in the packets and is grainy
and if I can't get unmelted ones I won't eat
it.

We sort of have had this discussion before. ALL environmental reactions take very different amounts of time to show their damage and sometimes they are only damaging in combination with other things.

For example, if you really need any to make the point, most food allergies show themselves within a day of reintroduction IF they have been totally witheld for an average of 3 1/2 days. However, in some people the reaction will not show up for a week. Usually the timing is the same for thie individual for whatever is being tested. In other words, if wheat shows up in 7 days it will likely always be 7 days UNLESS combining it with another hypersensitivity (like dairy) changes the timing.

What I am trying to say is that this can be an incredibly complex thing to chesk out. Just using the immediate effects as your guide likely misses more than half of the causes.

Remember that smoking takes 20-40 years to show it's damage.
