The PERFECT WHOLE FOODS diet questions.

Posted by Mikael on January 12, 2000 at 09:40:31:

Hello again. I read the Healing Power of Whole Foods and and begun the Perfect whole foods diet about two and a half months ago. Now I have some questions about the perfect diet.

1. How long should I be on the perfect diet before testing some refined carbohydrate to find out how far I've got? Loiselles book recommends three months, but I think I saw Doctor Stoll talking about six months.

2. My toothpaste has glycerin in it. Is this ok?

3. I live in a house with people who eat refined grains. If a crumb of bread from a loaf of rye bread that is not 100% unrefined gets mixed in my food, will it prevent me from succeeding in my perfect diet attempt?

4. Is fruit butter okay on this diet. It is made by cooking fresh applesauce in a saucepan until enough water has evaporated to make the solution somehow buttery. I know dried fruit is not ok, but fresh fruit cooked is ok. what about fruit butter then? How far can i process fresh fruits before they become refined?

5. Doctor Stoll, you said that eventually the body will reset itself and gets a healthy homeostasis. What does this mean? What exactly happens and why? What proof do I have of this resetting really happening. I couln't find any testimonials on in. Apparently what I'm doing is so difficult that not many people have tried it.

Hi, Mikael.

I will try to answer your questions in the order in which you asked them. By far the best answer is your own experience when you have done this according to Beth's book for a a few weeks ( You should see a difference in a week or less--IF you are perfect.)

1. Some people will be "reset" in 3 months and most will be "reset" in 6. Some will take a year. The advantage of being reset is that testing will not negate much of the work you have already done. Were it me, from what I know now, I would not take such a chance until at least 6 months and if I got great results would probably wait a year. You MIGHT be lucky and find you do not have a big relapse after 3 months. Do you feel lucky?

When you are not reset, you will have a return to your old symptoms for about 3 days after getting back in the straight and narrow. They will be worse than they were in the first place because you have been sensitised by being away from them. Once you are reset, it would take you a while before you would start feeling worse being off the diet. The longer you do it perfectly, the longer it would take for you to use up the benefits you have placed in the bank of your bodymind.

2. Yes.

3. Yes. After 6 months this is not likely to have any effect. See above.

4. I hope it does not say in Beth's book that fruit of ANY kind is O.K. until you are "reset". Then it is still a stress and you can overdo it until you have done this for a few years. Even then, someone who has had a problem that was helped by "the diet" will never be able to pig out on fruit for very long before symptoms will start coming back. Remember, your bodymind's experience is still your best guide. My job is to get you to understand the basic outlines for you to operate within.

5. I have done it and hundreds of my patients have done it when I was in my practice. If you put a note on the BB and title it something like "Whole food "perfect" diet. Testimonials?" you will get some. Most people, once they are well, no longer feel the need to follow the BB.

Unfortunately, it sounds to me like you have been triggering yourself all this time. With just triggers you will still slowly get benefits but you will have withdrawal and many fewer benefits than if you were perfect for a few weeks.

No one knows for sure why this works this way. Those of us who have practiced it, empirically have seen what it does. The present theory is that it deals with the Krebs Cycle and immunological triggering related to stressing a seriously dysfunctional Cycle. This has something to do with exactly how "the straw that broke the camel's back" thing works. Being reset is when the Cycle is no longer dysfunctional: the camel is back up.

Hope this helps.

Walt
