Chronic diarreah

Posted by Jackie on March 30, 2000 at 15:57:34:

CAn anyone tell me why I have diarreah every day??? This has been going on for years, doctors tell me nothing is wrong with me. I had my gall bladder out a year ago, but this has been going on for so many years before that. I never know when it will hit, most of the time its right after I eat. I am afraid to go out and eat for fear of it happening, and long trips worry me, too. Sometimes it happens even if I don't eat. Many times I feel faint and have to put a cold rag on my face to keep me from passing out during the time I am in the bathroom. Can someone tell me what may be the cause??? Jackie

Well, what I eat varies. Many times I think I want a certain food, and when I smell it, I get nauseous and can't eat it. Something as simple as a hamburger or chicken can make me nauseous to smell it. I eat normally, I guess, when I can. I eat toast for breakfast, cheese crackers for a snack, pizza, fish, steak - I can eat anything that doesn't nauseate me, but one day it might and the next day I'm fine with that food. No matter what I eat I get diarreah. Whether its fried or baked, vegetables or meat, anything makes me have diarreah. One thing I might mention is that I drink alot of coco-cola. I mean ALOT. I even carry a small cooler around with them in it, and have one open constantly. It seems the only thing that doesnt make me sick. I dont' like juice, don't care much for milk, drink water sometimes, hate coffee, and sometimes drink cocoa. So, thats about it. I'm very thin looking, although I weigh 130 pounds. People think I weigh 115 or so, and I am only 5'6" tall. All bones, I guess.....! I dont' know what else to include, thats about it. Thanks!

Hi Jackie,

You are subsisting almost entirely on refined carbohydrates. You are going to have to get very serious about your carb addiction before it kills you. Read in the archives about the "Perfect Whole Food Diet" and DO IT! For you Coke = Sugar, sugar = poison. Your diarhhea is your intelligent body trying to rid itself of the poison you are canstantly bathing it in.

Please make the decision to change your eating habits TODAY!

Let us know how you do,

Dr. Kim

Thanks for your opinion, I appreciate your concern and help. I have been reading about these diets on the archives. I am so afraid I cant stick with a certain diet, since I get sick upon just smelling a food sometimes. Sometimes what doesn't make me sick is something I may not really even like! And I can prepare something, fine with smelling it, and take a few bites and feel nauseous. I certainly don't enjoy food anymore. I know the coke's aren't good for me. I just wonder why the COKE'S don't make me nauseaous since they are probably what so bad for me???? I think the reason I can eat toast, crackers, bread is because it absorbs the acid in my stomach and makes me less nauseous. Make sense??? Well, I will check out the Whole Foods Diet more thoroughly and see what I can do. Do you have any idea why the diarreah sometimes makes me weak and feel faint????? Thanks so much for your comments. Jackie

Hi Jackie,

You are dialing with the results of your diet. This probably includes LGS, hepatic dysfunction, biliary insuffiency, and even adrenal insuffiency. I hope that Dr. Stoll will add his ideas to this.

I would suggest some specific support for these organs while you are changing your diet and learning SR. I use several products by Biotics which give consistent results. Livotrit for the liver, Beta TCP for the gallbladder and Cytozyme AD for the adrenals. If you cannot find these products, let me know.

I am glad that you are making this your #1 priority.

When I read about what you eat, the thing that really stuck out to me also was you saying you drink a LOT of Coke. How many do you drink per day? I feel for you as I have been an addict of this delicious drink for 20 years, and have only recently worked toward giving it up. I started by switching to the Caffeine-Free Coke and am working my way off of it altogether from there. It is hard at first because I associate Coke with "fun" and "happiness" and "energy", and a way to "let go" of stress. I am taking it in steps.

Coke is very acidic and besides having a ton of sugar it also has caffeine which will dehydrate you. In other words, drinking a Coke will make you more dehydrated than you were before you drank it. Then you having all that diarrhea of course dehydrates you more. Your body need pure water to drink, and lots of it.

I know it seems to you like the Coke is not the cause because since you are addicted to it, (yes, it really is an addiction that is very hard to beat, but you can do it), it is a feel-good thing for you and you don't associate it to your problem. Sometimes we cannot clearly see the obvious, especially when it is regarding ourselves. Alcoholics often cannot see that alcohol is a problem at all!

Since you drink little else but Coke, I think it is the #1 suspect for your problem. Even though the diarrhea does not happen until after you eat a food, that does not mean that the Coke didn't have a cause effect! It could be that if you had not drank any Coke, you would then be able to digest your food normally.

You have to view your body as a system of organs that needs certain things to run well, just as your car needs certain things. If you put the wrong stuff in your car, it will break down in all different ways. Also, think about whether or not you would feed a young child the same way you feed yourself. Or think about how you would feed a puppy or other animal according to what its body needs. Your body needs the right stuff too.

It is easy to forget this as we go through our busy lives, especially since our bodies keep functioning to some degree, so we don't realize the extent of the damage we are doing until it is often irreversible.

Hi, Jackie.

Listen to Dr Kim, KMD and Dona Thanks y'all.

What they are telling you is right on. However, I think it has gone far beyond that cause even though relieving it would be helpful.

Note what KMD said on 4/2.

You have done a lot of damage and stopping that damage is probably your first way to turn this around. However, you have bigger fish to fry at least for a while. The first thing for you to do is to LEARN.

Hi, Jackie

Sorry to jump in here, but it sounds like you're not getting enough daily nutrition with what you're able to eat!

I felt weak & faint when I had to go on a clear liquid diet for two days in preparation for medical tests.

Listen to DR Kim, he knows what he's talking about.

Hi Lindsey,

I think that if sugar were a new product trying to get past the FDA analysis, it would fail. It is as addictive as anything and can be the cause of tremendous human suffering.

Degenerative diseases caused by regular sugar consumption include the following.
hypoglycemia diabetes
chronic constipation chronic stomach upset
intestinal arthritis
asthma headaches
osteoporosis heart disease
obesity chronic Candida infection
tooth decay inflammatory bowel disease

This is not a complete list of the diseases believed to be caused by chronic long-term sucrose consumption, but these are the diseases in which it is easiest to see a relationship. Other diseases in which the consumption of sugar is implicated are:
psoriasis cancer
multiple sclerosis canker sores
gall stones cystic fibrosis

This is why I ask people to look at sugar as "poison"

Dr. Kim

Why is sugar poison? See "Sugar and Immunity" on this site...

Dear Jackie

I can relate to your bowel angst but take heart because I've found help! The replies you've gotten are true - I've been following these things on the board for months, had chronic diarrhea for much longer. I never drank more than 2 cokes a day but gave them up (save one slip) three months ago. Tip of the iceberg. Still working on other recommendations found on the board, esp demon sugar. Robert McFerrin's dietary philosophy is helping as I move towards it. Meanwhile I have found two things that are helping my symptoms while I work on the real problem. First of all, immediately after a bad bout of diarrhea I make a cup of peppermint tea (steep covered for 5 minutes). When its steaming no longer I add Slippery Elm extract as directed on the bottle (its a liquid extract) and then sip it. It really slows things down and the tea makes the extract more palatable. My favorite discovery has been an herbal supplement I am currently taking 3 x daily. I hesitate to mention the brand name (Can I post it, Walt?) but here are the combination ingredients: *Peppermint leaves/oil *Aloe Veraa *Slippery Elm Marshmallow (Root) *Pau D'Arco (Bark) *Wild Yam (Root) *Lobelia *Ginger (Root). Additionally, I have had success calming nausea by taking ginger in liquid form at the first sign. I am extremely sensitive to odors even when cooking favorite foods and the ginger has given relief if I do it in time. After you cut out the cokes for awhile I hope you, like myself, will pour yourself one, think about all the stuff in it that's not good for you and think "This is a cup of poison for me" and pour it out. Good luck. Knowledge is power.

Hi, Dr Kim.

I REALLY apreciate all that you are doing to help people understand the insideous damage sugar does to our bodies.

I have done this for so many years that I do not need to repeat myself again. The references and many books (available on this website), documenting what I have learned over the years---and with which I have seen the dramatic results in myself and my patients when we got away from this poison, would be enough to convince anyone to at least see what it felt like to be totally without refined carbohydrates (see the article on the home page about this)it for a week.

Following Beth Loiselle. RD's book for a couple of weeks will convince anyone. Unfortunately, without the personal experience, NO ONE will believe it. They will want "just one more study".

Many references are listed in the free protocol I offer on the homepage article under "How to be Healthy". Those who try it will help others not be confused by sharing their experiences on the BB.

DO NOT TRY IT FOR YOURSELF WITHOUT READING BETH'S BOOK FIRST

Hope this helps.
