Any supplements to help diarrhea WHILE I am working on SR?

Posted by Aaron on September 27, 2001 at 15:11:12:

I am not looking for a quick fix. Just something to help me while I work on SR, exercise, and changes in diet. I have chronic diarrhea that no doctor can figure out why I have it and it is getting worse. Finally, thanks to this website, I realize, leaky gut, candida, probable parasites fall into my diagnosis of WHY I have this. I am working on SR, etc... In the meantime, is there ANY product out there that is known to help chronic diarrhea? I have heard of Normal Stool. Anyone tried it? What about Intestive? As many responses would be greatly appreciated as I am desperately going to try some sort of product that can help me while working on the long term solutions such as SR, etc. Thanks. Can't wait to hear any responses as my fingers wait to dial the 1 800 number anyone suggests I call for the product! Thanks! I am on GSE right now. Is this suppose to help intestinal problems? Unfortunately, it has not as of yet.

Aaron - One good thing to try (which is easy on the system for most people) is using extract of Slippery Elm Bark 3 times a day between meals. Use the amount directed on the bottle of extract, diluted in a bit of warm (not hot) water or Peppermint tea.

Taking capsules of Cayenne-Ginger was also beneficial to me. Try cutting out dairy products and avoid drinking apple juice.

Supplement also with L-Glutamine and consider a digestive enzyme supplement.

Hi, Aaron.

You might also try "old faithful" Pepto Bismol. You would have to take it regularly for a few days to see what effect it might have.

You can also try peppermint tea. I mentioned in one of my posts that it helped my mother who has had chronic diarrhea for 15 years. She went from having 10 loose BMs a day to having one loose one. Okay, that's not perfect, but after having to wake up every few hours each night to go and spending the first two hours of the day going to the bathroom, this is a big improvement. If you try it, let me know if it works for you.

Aaron-

I also suffered with chromic diarrhea for almost 2 years. It took about a year for my LGS/Dysbiosis to heal, but here's a quick snapshot of what worked for me:

-No raw fruit or vegetables, except very ripe bananas
-no corn, milk, processed foods, chocolate
-Yoga-4 xs/week
-alcohol of any kind set me back
-drink 48 oz water/day
-Digestive enzymes before every meal
-Soluble fiber in every meal
-Probiotics--Culurelle/S. Boulardii/any 4-8 strain Acidophilus(no more than 20 bill/day)

***This is the important part >>

I followed a protocol of combining 3 natural anti's for 10 days, went 3 days without any, and then did a different combo of anti's for 10 days, went without any for 3 days, and so on. It took about a month to get over the dieoff reactions and I went from going 8-12 times per day down to 3. Then it was a few more months to become solid and because I was still learning what I could handle, I had setbacks now & then. I seem to be fine now. Knock on wood.

These are the natural supp's I have used, and still use on a more ltd basis--

1. Caprylic acid
2. Apple Cider Vinegar(tabs with Cayenne, Ginger)
3. Tricycline by AllergyReasearchGroup
4. Candida Formula by EnzymaticTherapy(contains Oil of Oregano, Thyme oil, Golden Seal, peppermint)
5. Golden Seal
6. Cayenne
7. Wormwood w/ Black Walnut
8. Green Black Walnut Tincture
9. Paragone
10. Pau D'Arco

I also work on keeping my body temp. up(chronically low which perpetuates bad bugs) by walking at least 20 mins/day, getting sunlight & drinking lemon juice, water & olive oil with ginger in the ams.

I did months & months worth of research before coming up with this protocol--which I got from one of my many books on the subject.

Hopefully this will save you some time--but of course, read everything you can. If you need some direction on research-email me at islekatz@caribsurf.com.

I know EXACTLY how frustrating it can be to have this condition. I'm convinced it's dysbiosis.

Hi Vince-

I'm the same way--in caps. I also use it in cooking in place of black pepper.
