Ears

Posted by Tammy on November 28, 1998 at 23:27:41:

My outer ear canals itch. I've used antibiotic ear drops. It helps for a while, but the problem keeps coming back. The doctor says it isn't swimmers ear, so what is it? Is there anything that can be done to cure the problem? Sometimes I get outer ear infections from the scratching. Just recently I've been experiencing some dizzyness and headaches when my ears are at there worst.

Hi, Tammy.

Believe it or not, TMJ is the most commonly missed cause of this symptom.

HOWEVER, the most common cause is eczema and it can be so mild that an inexperienced physician can miss it.

You could easily make the diagnosis yourself by trying cortisone ear drops at the first sign of symptoms. If your symptoms go away with one [or sometimes 2 application(s)] you can be sure of the diagnosis-----------cortisone drops do not work for anything else so fast.

ANYHOW, if eczema turns out to be the diagnosis, you should go to the archives for this BB & read everything about that diagnosis. If TMJ is the cause, look in the archives about that.

THEN, if you still have questions, write again.

Walt

A lack of essential oils like Omega 3 and 6 seem to be related to this problem. A trial with flaxseed oil might be worth a shot. (as in taking it, not putting it in your ears)

Best Wishes

Thanks so much. This board is the greatest!

I'll check out your suggestions. I've been treating this problem off and on for over five years. To be honest with you, I thought maybe it was a candida problem.

Love to all of you,
Tammy
