Dr. Stoll;
My 6 year old son has been on antibiotics for 5 years and finally got tubes in Aug/00. In Jan/01, he had excruciating pain, and his right ear drum burst. 3 weeks later when we finally got in to the ear specialist, he said the tube fell out, and had healed over. However, the following week I could see the tube, and it was packed full of hard wax. The pediatrician scraped the tube out. Travis complains daily about pain in his right ear, and says if a semi drives by close, it hurts his ear and his ear "beeps". Also, he said his ear pops and cracks a lot. What could this mean? We are going to the specialist in a week again, but I feel like noone seems concerned. Travis had a hearing test right before the tube surgery and he does have some minor hearing loss. Could this beeping, cracking and popping be tinnitus? He also has allergies. Shouldn't he have another hearing test? I would appreciate your input.
Thank you.

First, try eliminating ALL DAIRY. Anything with the milk protein in it should be completely eliminated, no traces. Contact the Food Allergy Network for a complete list of ingredients to watch for. Next, it sounds like your son may have some TMJ complicating things (the popping and cracking he talks of). Ear infections and TMJ can both be helped or even eliminated completely by a good chiropractor. Please look into that, and good luck!

I feel that treating the ear itself works better than
taking pills. That way you might be able to get right to
the problem. I would try salt water in the ear and see what
that does. If it helps there are more things to do.

Good call, Kath. I can't add much more than what you have already said. Study after study has shown that chiropractic care is very effective for chronic ear infections. No milk is a no-brainer as the first thing to do, also.

Hi, Gwen.
Welcome to the 'site. I know you must be new because you did not know to look at the archives before asking your question and that is exactly what you need to do now. This is such a common problem and has been dealt with so often on this BB (successfully, I might add) that you will know what to do just through education.
Let us know how he does. This is the typical story of dairy allergy in more than 90% of cases. Within a month of TOTAL elimination of dairy 90% of cases are cleared up. 5% more will clear up with dairy and wheat elimination. See the archives so you will do the trial corectly.

Thanks, Doc Kim!
I am always embarassed when I forget how much Chiropractic can help something like this. You KNOW how my medical education was slanted and hope you will forgive me my lapses.
Namaste`

I switched my daughter to soy milk and eliminated most dairy, not all, and she didnt' have an ear inf. for over 1 year, after having them continuously for 4 months.

Thanks for sharing, arh.
I hope this is the end of the problem. Some who continue to get a trace of dairy eventually have recurrance.
Those who are meticulous about elimination can usually go back to dairy in 6-12 months without problems.
