Help Please!! Bleeding Ear Injury!!!

I hope someone can help me!! About three weeks ago, I had cleaned my ears (twirling motion with a Q-tip) Afterwards, my ear was bleeding quite a bit. Enough to clot onto the cotton that I stuffed it with. It remained sore for several days, so I went to the Doctor. He said that I had scraped my ear canal and there was a large scab on it. He said "It will get better, just leave it alone". Well, that was 2 weeks ago, and it is still SO sore!!! I am allergic to neo-sporin, so I can't use the common corti-sporin drops or anything like that. Can anyone recommend something to sooth this a little. I would think that by this time, it should be better. It is not draining, or infected, and my eardrum is fine (says the Dr.) so why does it hurt so much still??? Thanks for any help!!!

Heidi,

Now you have had personal experience with why I have always taught not to use qtips in the ear canal. It not only causes the ears to retain dirt and ear wax but it has the potential of injury and infection like this.

If you will just look carefully at any advertizement for qtips they show them being used FAR from the ear canal since they know that would make them liable for suit.

See the ear archives for a full explanation.

Hot compreses would be something for you to consider. Be sure that you put the heat on the ear that is up and not lie down on the hot compress (see the hot compress archives).
