Dear Walt
My husband is 45 yrs old and keeps getting severe earaches.
We do not believe in antibotics, we prefer homopathic remedies. Do you have any suggestions? He also has extreme ear wax. I would appreciate any suggestion you have. I read articles on q tips and have showed them to him. I didn't realize that the ear could make that much wax. He has been using q tips for years. Could this be causing the problems?
thanks aleell

Q-Tips are not made to be inserted in ear canal. (But try telling that to MY husband. LOL)

I do not know if this will help you, but I get bad earaches as well and all I do to make it better is take some alcohol and drop it in my ear, let it sit there for a minute, and tilt my head to let it escape. Sounds kind of silly, but it has helped my ears since I was a child. I do not know if it is good to do it, but my ears sure like it :) Hope he gets better.

Hi, Arleel.

He needs to go to a doc and see if his canals are filled with wax. Q-tips are the most common cause of obstructing the canals with wax. After many years, just syringing the ear will no longer remove it and professional help is needed.

Let us know what happens.

For future prevention, get a little kit for this at the drug store (a couple of dollars). It will have a rubber syringe and a dropper bottle of ear wax softening stuff.

If he will put a couple of drops in the ear canal (every 6 months--so long as he has given up his Q-tip addiction), giving it a few minures to run all the way in, and then the next day syringe the canal out well, he will never have this problem again. BURN the Q-tips!

Let us know.

Walt
