Hi, Michelle.

Chronic or recurrent obstruction of the eustacian tube (this is your exact diagnosis) is most commonly caused by allergies or by TMJ. A related cause is plagiocephaly. Your plane trip only pushed you over the edge into a different level of functioning--you had these proceses going on before the trip.

If I had this I would begin by selectively and TOTALLY eliminating my most commonly ingested foods (as they would be the easiest environmental substances to control) for a few weeks to see what happens.

In the meantime I would make sure that my teeth never touch except while I was actually chewing (that may mean a cheapy mouth guard at night--like athletes wear).

Finally, I would consider a good Cranial Osteopath or Chiropractor to see if you could get immediate relief that way.

Let us know what you learn and how you do.

Walt
