Since December, I've had fullness in my ears. It remains as the single most annoying symptom of my TMJ (lacking anything else to lay the blame on). I've had many ENTs check my ear canals and they said they're fine. My audiograms did not hint at deafness at any frequency, so that rules out deafness. They all suspect a blocked eustachian tube and suggest the valsalva maneuver everyday. Also, I've read in the archives that papaya enzyme can also be helpful. I've tried both these techniques and I still have fullness in my right ear. Could this really be a blocked ET? And could this really have been caused by my TMJ? BTW, I can make popping sounds in the right ET when I clear my throat.
Anyone has a good suggestion or opinion on this?
Thanks,
Ruel

Oh, any by the way, it feels even worse when I'm in silent places. It's like the blockage becomes painful and there's a throbbing sensation, like my ear wants to break out of it or something.

Hi Ruel,
Have allergies -- specifically food allergies -- been ruled out? That's what I'd look at first.

Candida maybe? I have a similar problem with my ears, my right one especially, feeling lightly clogged all the time, and certain foods seem to make it feel "thicker". I believe I have a candida over-growth that's there as a result of the mercury (or other toxins) in my body. Most of my problems are "head symptoms"--feeling of post nasal drip (thought nothing to cough up, spit out, etc.).

How long has yours been clogged up? Does it start to feel painful - like a deep throbbing - in silent places?

And, have you had any successful treatment of it yet?

Ruel,
To understand how TMJ causes blocksge of the eustacian tube see the ears and the functional anatomy archives.
It will take you an averaage od 6-12 months to resolve the TMJ sufficiently to break up this vicious cycle so you need to be patient.
Since this syndrome is usually due to a combination of factors---and you do not have to totally resolve ALL of them to relieve the symptoms---you might work on the hypersensitivity aspect at the same time. This would, if applicable, relieve your symptoms much quicker. If you want to add this, I would start by TOTALLY eliminating dairy from my diet for a month and letting us know how you are doing.
