Hi everyone, I am checking in a year later and the news is well...I still have the ringing. I wrote last time thinking that my eustachian tubes were blocked. However, that is not the case. Some had mentioned that neck problems can be related to tinnitus. This year July 2004, I went to my regular doctor because it feels as if something has grown in my neck right up against my spine. As I push on it, it feels like a ball bearing in my neck. The other side of my neck there are no such problems. I can put my finger on this thing and slightly move it around. It makes a cracking noise in my right ear, Pain radiates to the front of my forehead (left side only) down my (left) arm to my elbow, pain in my left ear (deep inside my ear) and runs down the back(left side) of my neck. I went for an x-ray and waiting results as I write this. I am also going to go to physical therapy for a month and see it that helps. Last year my wisdom teeth starting hurting me so I had them removed. That did not solve anything but the pain is now gone. Both of my ears "pop" so I know my tubes are not blocked. However my left ear feels like it is plugged up. Somedays it opens right up and on others it feels like someone stuffed my left side of my head with cotton. I have eliminated Dairy and wheat from my diet and that did not change anything. I am going to try a mouth guard (My sister thinks that I could be clenching my teeth at night) I have no pain in my jaw but the left side of my jaw cracks excessively. Any ideas? What do cranial osteopaths do or perform that can possibly help the situation? Before all this bologna took place, I had very good hearing. Then one morning I woke up, my hearing was gone (high pitch) and had buzzing in my ears.My left side is far worse than my right. Sorry once again for the long drawn out post but I think it is critical to others who might be experiencing this same problem, and to increase knowledge about this awful condition. One last note, I never had any problems with my ears or neck until I started this particular job 2 years 7 months ago where I sat at a desk all day long performing stressful repetitive tasks. Three times I went to my doctor complaining of neck problems. I am certain, that this job had something to do with it. I am truly convinced of this. God Bless and Take care.

Hi Jim,
I hope you have been looking up causes of neuropathy...
-excees use of nsaids
-Vitamin B12 defficiency
-type 2 diabetes
-Lyme disease
-exposure to very loud noise
-infection
The fact that the tinnitus is on both sides means that it is
more likley a systemic problem.
Good hunting..
Ron

I have this as well. Sounds like yours may be TMJ-related, but the causes are varied, and (hate to say) tinnitus is a common problem for which there is usually no cure. Believe me, I understand and feel for you.
God bless, kc

Hi Jim
Try a chiropractor!
Also... Gingko biloba is an herb often used to get rid of tinnitus. Look into it. This product can also be placed directly into the ears.
Of course this would be in addition to the 3 legged stool, especially SR.

Hi Jim.
Allergies are one cause of tinnitus. Wheat and dairy are common allergens, but you could be allergic to ANY food. Airborne as well as chemical allergies could be in cause also.
Why don t you try Robert McFerran s e-diet. It is a hypo-allregenic diet, and well worth the 4 to 6 weeks of carefull food monitoring. The first week is the most difficult, and the first four days of that week the hardest of all.
I used to have tinnitus also, and food allergies were the cause. I have airborne alletrgies also, but they do not affect my ears. My tinnitus was accompanied by feelings of fullness just behind and below my earlobes, where I feel pain if my eustachian tubes are blocked. Allergies create inflammation anywhere, and inflammation is a destructive process, my hearing is much poorer since these former episodes. The inflammation definately damaged some tissue.
Please give the e-diet a try. You will find the protocol in the archives, as well as posts of e-dieters and the withdrawal crisis some of us have been through. The experiment will be compromised if you cheat, so choose a period where there will be less demands on you before initiating it. Please note that the more you have allergies / sensitivities the harder will be the first couple of e-diet days.
If you do give it a shot, keep us posted on the results.

Hi MJ,
That fullness you describe sounds like a serious infection called Mastoiditis...
Were you on antibiotics?

Hi Ron,
The fullness occurs during inflammatory episodes, and is not viral or bacterial in nature.

The chiropractor adjusted my neck and releived my Tinnitus. It can be related to how you sit all day.
