plugged up ears (chronic)

Posted by julen [853.1044] on September 01, 2004 at 21:33:31:

does anyone have a solution to unpop plugged feeling ears? whenever I yawn or swallow they make that suction-type sound. an ENT tested my hearing & looked in my ears, everything appears perfectly normal. they put me on prednisone for a week, did nothing. have tried chewing gum, plugging my nose & blowing, decongestants, but nothing helps. could allergies cause this? any advice would be greatly appreciated!!! It's not painful but totally annoying! thank-you.

Allergies could definately cause that! Chronic swelling from the allergies can block the eustacian tubes. I would see a good allergist. The proper use of an antihistamine would probably help.

Hi Julen,

...and get off that prednisone too

Try Reactine and stop sleeping with the window open.
Turn on a fan instead.

Hi, Julen.

It is allergy until proven otherwise.

Since foods are the easiest allergens to control, if this were me, I would immediately, TOTALLY eliminate any trace of dairy or wheat from my diet for a week and see what happens.

Let us know what you learn.

Hi Walt,

it is so good to see you in action again.
I am glad I read your comment. I had same problem julen has, for long time. Few days ago I finished 2 weeks diet without dairy and grains (more restrictions) and my ears are open again. I realized that reading your post. You are absolutely right.

best wishes

Matylda

My right ear is plugged up and it is annoying the crap out of me! I've tried everything to un-plug it but nothing will work. I cant even hear out of it, at all. If someone wants to talk to me they have to talk on the left side of my head!

Rachel,

Where IS the plug? What does your doc say after looking in your ear and trying the "tuning fork " test?
