doc stoll-ears ringing, help?

Posted by jimmy v on August 19, 2001 at 17:19:30:

doc stoll i have read the archives and you suggest hypnosis for tinnitus ( i have a constant chronic case ) i have tried many things and have managed to reduce the volume, but its still there all the time. whats the success rate if done properly? and im assuming that it actually doesnt go away but instead the person's brain gets trained not to hear it? correct? if so does that mean that i'll never hear it or i'll just be more relaxed when i hear it? also an ent told me that my ear drums were"sucked in" but gave me no advice. i think my tinnitus has something to do with pressure and or partially blocked eustachian tubes ( seems to get slightly better with a mild decongestant)can an ent do anything to releive this pressure and or fluid build up??

Hi, Jimmy.

First of all, if your ENT doc has discovered a cause for your tinnitus (blocked eustacian tube, etc.) obviously the idea is to deal with the causes and see how much tinnitus you still have THEN.

The self-hypnosis does train the person not to recognize the noise. However, if there is a correctable cause, there are worse things than tinnitus that can result. It is never a good idea to ignore any correctible cause.

IF this is from blockage of the eustacian tubes, for example, the most common cause (nearly always missed by conventional medicine) is hypertsensitivity to something(s). By far the most common in this culture is dairy & wheat. At least 95% of all who have chronic eustacian tube blockage will clear up in a few months by TOTALLY eliminating every trace of these 2 things from their diet. Most of the other 5% are from other sensitivities ( soy, peanuts, eggs, etc.)

Let us know how you do.

Walt
