Hello,
I am a 29 year old RN, have been an avid Marathoner for 2 years, almost breaking 3 hours in the last one!! To make a long story even longer, I had acute mono at 14 years of age. This past October of 2002, I was diagnosed with reactivated EBV just over 2 months ago. I had to quit working, (my boss was scared I would give the patients mono and I was reprimanded for working 2 hours after being informed of my diagnosis)and take about 2 weeks off from my training for the marathon. I started on colostrum , aloe vera gel, astragalus, echinacia, glutamine, lysine and the regular vitamins, A,E,B's, Mag, zinc, omega 3's, etc. I recovered really quick and was able to resume racing and finish in the top 5 overall female and was able to run 3 1/2 marathons since then (in 4 weeks), all under 1:29 and also was able to resume training for my next marathon in 2/2003. Until last week, My MD says my titers are still elevated and that I have relapsed b/c my lymphocytes are 42% of my WBC and my nuclear antigen ab, IgG that was 20 in october in now negative and my EBV AB VCA,IgM is and was negative since 10-02. My EBV Early Antigen AB IgG is still positive. My EBV Ab VCA, IgG is down from 67 to 55 now. How can they say I have relapsed, I guess from my symptoms and complaints and feeling like I have been run over by a truck. My lymph nodes, especially in my elbows are hurting and I am exhausted and it is not from all the running, my milage was down to 50% what it was 6 months ago. My body is use to running 70-80 miles a week and doing speed work and racing alot. I am now not able to hardly get out of bed.....and I usually have so much energy. I was hoping to try to break 3 hours in my next marathon but now I am not sure if I will ever run again. I am so tired of being told to just sleep and not do anything. I feel like there must be something that I can do. I know EBV is very common in the elite marathoners but they seem to recover and are able to start back and resume training. I would like any help, if anyone would be so kind. I have great empathy for others with this EBV and I truly hope that someone out there will give me some advice, other than just to lay around and sleep. However, that sounds very good to me at this time ;-) Thanks so much for any advice that has helped any runners.

Thanks, Karen.
Sounds like you have developed a very strong one legged stool for your wellness.
Remember, one leg (done well) is worth 3 points, 2 legs (done well) are worth 9 points and 3 legs (done well) are worth 27 points.
The only thing yet known, that will resolve something like this, is 3 legs of the welness stool. See the glossary, the home page (free protocol: "How to be Healthy") & the archives.
By the way, you surely know that no one can catcn mono from someone with chronic EBV. I wonder why your boss didn't bother to educate himself about this?
