I was diagnosed with mono yesterday. 39/f Boy do I feel terrible. Golf ball in the neck. (monospot test)
I am waiting for further results of epstein barr blood work as well.
Doc made light of it, said it should be okay in a week or two. I have three kids 5, 4 and 1......Hopefully they wont catch this....hopefully my wonderful husband wont catch this. From what the net says I DO NEED TO BE CAREFUL. He didnt mention a word. We are leaving on a family vacation to disney world in three weeks, will I be back to normal to drag three little boys around the park for 7 days??? I have a problem with swollen glands every 6 to 8 weeks and always tired.
Any suggestions are welcome. I feel so tired...
Please feel free to email me....
Blessings and thank you...... Joanne

Hi, Joanne.
You are not going to like to hear what I have to say.
First of all, unless your family is run down, there is likely no way that they can get it from you. One of the reasons it is called the "kissing disease" is that the virus is so weak that it takes VERY close contact to transmit it--even to someone suscpetible by having a lowered immunity. (If you want to know about this, go to the link below & spend a few hours.)
You would be very wise to cancel the Disney trip. I believe your doc is being negligent not to have told you that already. This would be a perfect setup to throw you into Chronic EBV. The timing is perfect! This is discussed in the link below as well. REMEMBER, you had to already be on your last legs to get this--whether you felt like it or not.
Your last sentence proves to me that my last statement is correct (As if I needed any proof.) Perhaps it will get you to thinking about this. You have been getting warnings about this for as long as you have had recurrent nodal enlargement "every 6-8 weeks".
Read some of the stories of people who have suffered with this worthless diagnosis for years and see what you are almost guaranteeing for yourself if you go to Disney.
See! I told you you wouldn't like to hear what I had to say.
In the link stuff, also, are your options for getting over this much faster and even possibly saving the Disney trip. The problem will be finding someone knowledgable who would be willing to give you 100 grams of vitamin C intravenously every day for 3-5 days--this resource is also in the link. That would stop this in its tracks. By taking at least 4 grams of esterified vitamin C 3 times a day orally--after the IV had done its work, till you were back from Disney for a couple of weeks, you might just avoid this becoming chronic.
THEN, you will have to face why you were run down & get vigorously healthy to prevent even worse things happening to you in the future. You have a family depending on you and you cannot afford to be "sickly".
Questions? If you do your homework on the link below, you should have what you need for the options available to you.

Hi, Penny.
If this were MY child, I would not be satisfied with the "pap" you have been getting from the "doc".
I would first find a doc in my area who was sophisticated enough that s/he would give him 100 grams of vitamin C, intravenously, 5 days in a row. In more than 90% of the cases this will resolve this in a week.
However, this could not be happening if he had a healthy immune system. Unfortunately, at this age, children tend to believe that they already know everything so getting him to change his lifestyle in the ways needed to improve his immunity will likely be impossible.
Go to the archives link below & spend a few hours. At least then YOU will know why he is not well. Go to the homepage for this 'site & read about "wellness" and you will know what he needs to do to be vigorously healthy.
THEN, if you still have questions, write again.

Last week on May 19th, my doc called said my monospot was positive. I had hives this past mother's day weekend, really tired, and my chronic swollen glands.
He had me consult him the next day, tested me than for EBV...he called today. Said all is okay, but it showed I once had mono,....he said it was chronic mono but no EBV. He said to resume to normal activities just probably chronic tonsillitis. (he did a scan on my neck back in december because my nodules are always swelling and I get sick often....all was okay on the scan..no lymphoma)
I explained to the doctor that after three weeks of neck pain that my glad didnt hurt so much today, but I now have an upper resp infection of some kind, congestion and terrible cold.
I asked him to send me copies of all my blood work so I can tell you the numbers. I read your ebv arhives..some anyway...interesting that the people have the same symptom as I. My three babies need me, I am so depressed. I have anxieties panic attacks now when I am out in public, falling apart here. In a few days this will pass and I will be back to normal for a few weeks. Maybe than I will find a new doctore, once I get sick again I'll make the appt.
Thanks for all your help......looks like I have left to do is pray. Dont see any post where people feel any better with chronic mono.
thanks for listening...

Joanne.
You need to read a lot more. This situation in which you find yourself, is one of the easiest ones to resolve BUT you are going to have to learn enough to do it. The information is on this BB if you take the time to find it.
If you want to read a book that was written about you, you might begin to break through your despair a little quicker. Read "Mind as Healer, Mind as Slayer" by Dr Pelletier about 4 times. SURELY that would be a small investment considering what your future is going to be like if you continue to believe you can pay anyone else enough to do your thinking for you.

Hi, Penny.
Were he mine, I would go straight to a knowledgable physician & get the IV C. Why waste your time trying to educate docs who don't have a clue?

DR. STOLL, MY SONS DOCTOR CALLED LAST NIGHT, HIS BLOOD IS STILL SHOWING THIN, JUST A LITTLE, HE PUT HIM ON A VITAMIN CALLED "ADEK", HAVE YOU HEARD OF IT, WILL IT REALLY HELP HIM? NEEDS TO TAKE 2 A DAY FOR A MONTH AND THEN REDO THE BLOOD TEST. PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK.

Hi, Penny.
What does the "doc" mean by "thin"? If by "thin" he means anemic, he would have to be VERY anemic to cause the symptoms you have shared with us.
In MY opinion, your "doc" is just playing for time. He is hoping that Mother Nature will bail him out & he will not have to admit that he doesn't have a clue.
ADEK is just what it sounds like. Vitamins A,D,E & K--the fat soluble vitamins. I have never heard of any research that shows any relationship between these vitamins & what your son has. Just a "stab in the dark".
If he has any basis in "science" for this recommendation, I would dearly love to see it. The one thing I DO know is that there is plenty for all of us to learn.

DR STOLL, I AN SO VERY CONFUSED!!! I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS WRONG, FIRST IT WAS HIGH LIVER ENZYMES, AND HIGH BILIRUBIN, THEN IT WAS MONO, THE EBV AND THIN BLOOD, HAS SAID NOTHING ABOUT HIM BEING ANEMIC, SAID ONE TEST SHOWED THE BLOOD AS BEING 19, THE OTHER 15.9, WHICH IS SUPPOSE TO BE 14, SO NOW THIS VITAMIN, YOUR RIGHT IT IS A COMBINATION OF ALL THE VITAMINS I SAID, HE TAKES THESE VITAMINS FOR A MONTH AND DO BLOOD WORK AGAIN, BUT AS OF RIGHT NOW I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON IN MY SONS SYSTEM, HE WAS UP ALL NIGHT THEN FINALY CRASHED ABOUT 10:30 THIS MORNING AND IS STILL SLEEPING , I KNOW HE NEEDS HIS REST SO I HAVE LET HIM SLEEP, CAN YOU GIVE ME ANY FURTHER ADVICE OR WHAT SOULD I DO, THOUGHT I MIGHT WAIT FOR THE MONTH TO PASS WITH HIM ON THIS VITAMIN, BUT AM SO CONFUSSED I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON, SHOULD I TAKE HIME TO A VIRUS SPECIALIST OR WHAT. Hi, Penny.
Have you read the archives about Chronic EBV?
The fat soluble vitamins are not going to make any difference. If your doc can provide any research showing me to be wrong, I would be VERY happy to learn about it.
If this were MY kid, I would see another doc in your part of the country whose training goes beyond the strictly conventional--WHICH HAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO OFFER THIS. All we conventional docs do is try to keep you amused while the bodymind takes care of this all by itself.
