Symptoms of EBV

Posted by Lisa on May 17, 2003 at 19:47:52:

Hi,
I'm wondering if anyone can give me a list of symptoms of Epstein Bar?
Can the virus affect the nervous system?
I was recently diagnosed with EBV and I'm trying to learn everything I can about the virus.
I was originally told I suffered from anxiety disorder and given an anti-depressant which seemed to make me even crazier. The Dr. took me off the Wellbutrin after she found out I tested positive for EBV. I feel much better since stopping the Wellbutrin.
My findings have been that the symptoms of EBV are very similar to those of depreesion and anxiety disorder.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Lisa

Yes, EBV symptoms do immitate anxiety and depression, among other things. That's why it's so difficult sometimes for the doc to figure out what the problem is. Especially when it continues into Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia. There are no tests for those. And none have a cure. You just have to control the symptoms and strengthen the immune system. I have several friends who battle one or more of these.

Thanks for your feedback. Have any of your friends mentioned having problems with their nervous system? The back of my head and neck sometimes feels like a tingling sensation, almost like a buzzing feeling with no sound.
I requested a CT just to be sure.
Thanks again, Lisa

Hi, Cheezi.

In my opinion, chronic EBV has no symptoms. It, like MVP, is just a convenient excuse for docs to ignore the real causes of those symptoms.

Hi, Lisa.

Always go to the glossary for any unfamiliar terms and then to the archives. Actually this is also discussed in the home page articles. "Mitral Valve Prolapse".

Hi Dr. Stoll.
I just ralized I was corresponding with you.
I am becoming more familiar with how to utilize your site.
I looked up some EBV archives and I think I see the big picture.
I think that how I'm perceiving EBV is that if my immune system were working properly I would not have gotten this virus.
I think I need to work more on my mental health.(unfortunately) I'll explain some other time.
I'll follow-up after I have my CT Scan done today.
I'm praying everything comes back negative.
I'll know how to heal myself if everything is okay.
Thanks for helping!!!
Lisa
