My daughter is 17 years old and had mono in the spring of '99 and missed eight weeks of school. She had to go on the home school program. She has always been a very active child and plays softball for the school and a league this summer. She is still having trouble with chronic fatigue, headaches and at times sore throat. We had to have a spinal tap done to make sure there wasn't anything else going on. It was o.k.

I had mono myself when I was in high school and I remember how I felt and my immune system has not been the same since and I am 44 years old.

What can I do to help her? She is constantly telling me how tired she is and that she doesn't feel well. I know mono lasts for months sometimes but surely there is something else I can do for her.

Your time and attention to this request is greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Walt is really backlogged after a month away.

Untill/unless he adds something specific, spend some time reading in the Epstein bar and chronic fatigue archives (linked below). And use the Glossary for any unfamiliar terms.

Hi, Laura.

It will (hopefully) help that you had the same experience and never fully recovered. Perhaps your daughter will take this to heart and actually resolve the problem NOW.

The resolution was not known when you had YOUR problem in the beginning. However, now, the same things that will resolve your daughter's health would finally put YOURS to rest as well. Perhaps it would take your example of health that would finally get her to take this seriously. It is NOT too late for you.

Unfortunately, there is NOTHING either of us can do to solve this. SHE has to be willing to learn and to DO what needs to be done. If she is still enough of a child to expect you to solve this for her, we should not waste our time. Urging her to take responsibility will just create a conflict between you and aggravate the problem.

If she is interested, have her spend a few hours on the link to the archives I have prepared below. THEN, if she has any questions, have her write again to this BB.

Walt
