Dr. Stoll,
I have been feeling very tired, loss of sleep, loss of appetite at times, muscle aches, joint aches, loss of memory, headaches that at times feel like migraines. This has been apart of my life for four years now. In the spring of 1996 I went into the doctors four times. One doctor said that I had symptoms of firbromyalsia, gave me some anti - imflamatory pills and sent me on my way. One month later I was back in to see my general practioner and gave him a history of my alliments. He did an EBV test along with thyroid, and lyme disease. The results came back with very high elevated EBV count. He told me that I had Ebstein Barr Virus. I asked what it was and what I needed to cure it. His response was that it would go away on its own. It is now Nov. of 1998. I did go on a natural healing program by ingesting large doses of herbs and vitamins. After 6 months I reduced to dosage because I was relieved of almost all the symptoms for about 9 months. The one symtom that never went away totally was muscle soreness and inability to strech with out pain. This past month I am back to feeling like I am 100 years old!!! Muscle pain is constant, and I wake up 4 times a night . Help me! Iam active, a single parent and need my life back! Is this curable or am I having to live with this forever?
Thanks, Liz

Dr. Stoll will answer your question from a professional standpoint, but I can answer it from personal experience. No, you do not have to live with this forever. I was dx'd with CFS and FMS with chronic myofacial pain syndrome, CRS, LGS, IBS, allergies, etc. After years of PT, dozens of drugs, and advice from doctors of several specialties, I continued to suffer. Then I found this BB about 7 months ago. After reading the recommended books, doing the Skilled Relaxation, and changing my diet, I can tell you that I no longer consider myself to have fibromyalgia (FMS), CFS, or MPS. I'm still working on the IBS , leaky gut, and candida, but they're improving.
The most important things I did beyond what I've mentioned are:
eliminate night shade vegetables
eat a high protein, low carb diet
eat whole foods
avoid processed foods, sugar, white potatoes, rice and bread, and partially hydrogenated oils
find a good chiropractor (Dr Dave on the BB led me to him) fo help with specific pain areas
get off the pharmacuticals, especially tricyclines
find someone who can get you on the right herbs and supplements
I read this BB every day and learn something new from it every day. I don't retain everything and it's very overwhelming at times, but we all learn from repetition, so over time, more and more of it is sinking in. The doctors really care and will guide you through anything you are willing to atttempt. ( Check Robert McFerran's responses to people.)
All the best!
Nancy

Hi, Liz.
All of these kind of diagnoses are caused by thre same underlying mechanisms. We have discussed all of them, right here on this BB for years. Without YOUR becoming an expert in these causes you will never believe how easy it is to resolve them or what you will have to learn & practice to do so. Go to the archives for this BB and read everything you can find about these diagnoses (including the references).
THEN, when you have more questions, write again.
The one thing I already KNOW you will need is an effective skilled rerlaxation technique practiced at least twice a day for 20 minutes (see protocol on home page for this site). That way you could get a head start while you are learning.
THIS IS A TOTALLY UNNECESSARY SITUATION ---except for supporting the conventional medical monpoly's income.
You might also consider putting a note on the BB titled something like "Fibromyositis and EBV Testimonials?". People who have resolved their condition with this information may still be on the BB & share with you what they did. Unfortuantely, once people are well, they tend to drift away from the BB---which is as it should be. However, successes are routine enough that there are probably well people still "lurking".
Bob McFerran is a regular contributor to this BB and could give you another approach that would dovetail with what I already know you need.

Dear Nancy,
Thanks for your input! Most times, testimonials like yours make more difference to someone just starting to learn than anything I can say.
