Dear Dr. Stoll,
I have been suffering with chronic fatigue and cold-like symptoms since Thanksgiving. Today the doctor's office called to tell me that my recent blood tests revealed I had Epstien Barr Virus. They said the only rx was to rest, drink liquids, and take it easy. So I hit the internet and thanfully found your bulletin board. Not only did I find answers to what EBV is but, also a wellness program. I have been looking for years for a wellness program to build up my immune system.
I am a music teacher and am constantly on my feet interacting with my students. There is no "down" time when the children are doing seat work, and as a result it is very physically taxing. Many weeks I come home and just collapse on Saturday, and over the years I have missed a lot of work. I am also involved in community theatre and various arts and music organizations. In addition, my stress level has been extremely high since August. Becays of all I've read about EBV on your BB it seems that I was certainly vulnerable to it.
I have just ordered your book, and am already looking forward to a more healthier and less stressful lifestyle.
I have one question though, and maybe it has already been answered somewhere on your BB. My question is does EBV stay dormant in your system after you've recovered from it, and if so, then are you susceptible to frequent reinffection?
Thank you so much for your BB and for caring!
Ruth

Hi, Ruth.
As you get well I hope you will share your experiences with the BB. It still surprises me to know how many people are still "lurking" around the BB hoping that there answers here
------------which there are! Many times it takes a testimonial to finally hit the right nerve to produce action. Who better than a teacher????
This has been discussed many times, too, but our inabillity to afford a search engine makes it hard to find. ONCE A PERSON HAS HAD ANY VIRAL INFECTION, THAT VIRUS STAYS IN EVERY CELL IN THE BODY FOR THE REST OF THAT PERSON'S LIFE. It is only the immunity the body has developed to deal with that virus that prevents the person from having the disaease over & over again.
SO, if the person's immunity gets low enough ANY viral infection can show itself again. Frequently, like "shingles" (the new response to a weakened immunity to varicella [chicken pox]) it is very different than the original "disease". "Post Polio Syndrome" is one of these. We are just beginning to appreciate how many of the "diseases of unknown cause" fall in this catagory.
Chronic EBV is the chronic condition that happens when the initial infection of "mono" returns.
Is this making sense to you? Have I answered your question?
Walt

How much would it cost to have a search engine?

Hi Lana,
A search engine would be free if I had about 50-100 hrs to code and test it.
To buy a commercial search engine that wouldn't take me too much time to maintain would probably cost about five to ten thousand dollars, and might require us to move our site to a higher-priced server.
I have tested two freeware search engines that were either too cpu intensive or did not return useful information when used. I have a third called "webglimpse" I am looking at now.
I am interested in getting suggestions. I'm especially interested in suggestions from folks who have actually tried or used the engines they are suggesting :)
Thanks,
Bill

Somehow I thought I could help fund a search engine. Several thousand? Shoot! I don't know anything about them, but I hope someone here can help.
