Walt how do you know when to pick up the pace on workouts.

Posted by Matt on February 08, 1999 at 23:27:16:

I have EBV I do not know if it is chronic or not. I had mono and got sick but never gave myself enough time to recover, before I was working out hard with the illness, then I would relaps. THe most rest I took was three weeks. I am an endurance athlete so it wears you down. I cut workouts down next to nothing, I have been on the whole foods diet for 2 months, 30 to 50 grams of Ester C a day for two months and one month of SR. I feel like I am close to getting over it if I am not over it. According to the doctor it takes several months the antibodies to not show up on the EBV test. I have not been tested.

Anyway I am training again taking it up slowly one week at a time. If I feel I am going to much I rest a couple of days and try again. It seems to be much better my legs are not heavy as when I was sick, I just feel out of shape. I want to do this right any Ideas? I want to be fit for summer but I have to start next month, that does not mean I go crazy with training it is a gradual step up week by week . AM I dreaming??????

Thanks!!!!!!!

Hi, Matt.

Great questions!

This is one for which I have some personal experience.

Do what feels good. As soon as it starts feeling less than good, STOP.

I don't know how to describe it better. When you are not having a chronic condition from which you are recovering, you need to push yourself. NOT HERE! Now, the opposite is true----------pushing yourself will set you back.

Let us know how you do. I hope this helps.

Walt
