Epstein Barr Virus

Posted by Diane on February 08, 1999 at 23:57:45:

Dear Dr.
My husband was diagnoised with EBV in July. How we discovered it...he got into some poison ivy and had a severe reaction to it...initial treatments did not work and so he went back to the DR. He was given a steroid pack and 24 hrs. after the initial he had tremendous pain in his stomach...he thought he would die and went to the ER. There he went through all kinds of tests...they thought it was his heart, then gal bladder and somewhere along the line after being admitted to the hospital and more tests his doctor said that he had mono and later had him take the very expensive EBV test. He was told that he was over the hump...no longer contagious and should be feeling better soon. Also, until they knew he had mono...he was on a week of high potentiecy antibiotics...then the tests were back and the Dr. said there wasn't anything to do except take it easy and come in a couple times for B12 shots. My husband felt somewhat better gradually, but lots of ups and downs. We've been doing a good vitamin regiem and echinecia (even some bee pollen for a while). But, it's February and he now has the headache back and he has "hit the wall" again. I've been reading everything on this BB...but seriously, I must be missing the program which he should be on. (I should mention that for the previous 3 years he has gone through a major career change with going back to school and moving twice and now taking a new job...he is 43.) Until recently he has exerciesed faithfully and eatten rather healthfully. Now, it seems that when ever he exercises...lightly to moderately...he gets a setback. Is this something that he could have picked up in the past? Previously for 4 summers he went to Russia and then the summer before last we were in Israel at a dig for a month. Hope this info helps you to give us more direction. Your help will be greatly appreciated....Diane PS. I had mono when I was 13 and was very ill with it. Is it still in my system? I sometime feel like i have an ache in my glands...through out my body. I haven't been feeling a well as I'm accustomed to...could I be fighting the virus also? TX!

Hi, Diane.

If he has read what has been discussed on this BB for years, about this, he should not have these questions.

His entire history says that the most important thing for him to be doing is SR and for him to never stop doing it. That is also the one thing glaring by its absence in this entire note. This is a serious deficiency in the advice he has been given and there is NO EXCUSE for its absence.

Hans Selye, MD described what is happening to him more than 50 years ago & published hundreds pf papers in the conventional medical literature over his lifetime. There is simply no valid reason for why it is not the first thing he should have been told-----other than that the solution makes no money for the medial monopoly in this country. I am an MD so I can say that.

If he is not willing to learn an effective SR on faith that I know what I am talking about, I suggest he carefully read the classic by Dr Pelletier "Mind as Healer, Mind as Slayer" (most recent edition).

THEN, if he still has questions, have HIM write.

This is as good as it gets unless he is willling to learn & do.

Walt

I'm so sorry I am not up to speed. What is SR? Last night I found these boards for the very first time. I want to help my husband...he is willing to do what I suggest. I'm calling to get your book. But, I was hoping for something to work with a little bit sooner. I spent last night and this AM reading the boards...and there is a lot of assumption...and frankly I'm not up to speed. Help!

Hi Diane,

Please go to the "Articles on Health" section of this website and start reading. You will find a lot of information about wellness there. There's an explanation of Skilled Relaxation and other articles about stress and immumity that you will find helpful. This is a really big picture you're going to find - it will begin to make sense the more you read and understand. For you hubby to get healthy it will take a lot of work and learning on his part. You can learn about it, but you can't do it for him.

Good Luck, I hope this helps!
trish
