Dear Dr. Stoll,
After having read every message about EBV that I could find on your BB (search engine is offline), is there any additional "treatment" to SR, whole foods, for my son's problem? He is 5 yrs. old.
For about a week, he passed large quantities of blood in the urine - no red cells. The kidney is fine, but blood tests show past, and current EBV. He is very anemic, and has "cold antibodies." His treatment is to keep very warm and he has started to improve.
NOW I know he has had a constant battle with EBV for about three years. He usually has swollen glands or little balls in his neck, he was even tested for mumps - his face hurt it was so huge. (Neg. on mumps). We have been following the blood type diet fairly seriously for a year now, so I am surprised that he would have such an attack now.
Is this common with EBV or should I be looking further?
Also, we use alot of vitamin C.I am going to try the oral dose (in place of the 100mg IV 3 - 5 days) that you suggested for someone elses' kid.
Thanks so much for your very helpful and reassuring BB. I can't wait to read your book.
Anne

Dear Anne,
So far as I know, blood in the urine is NOT a part of chronic EBV. Also, I do not understand your saying "large quantities of blood in the urine--no red cells". The definition of "blood in the urine" IS red cells in the urine.
What is the cause of his "anemia"? Is is blood loss, lack of production of blood cells, destruction of blood cells, WHAT? Your doc must have determined this already!
Chronic EBV at his age tells me that he has LGS and C-RS as well. If I knew what part of the country you were from, perhaps I could refer you to someone knowledgable (someone I would know personally) since that is what he needs ASAP. Although I itch to help, I would not be doing you any favors to try to help from a distance like this. You need someone who knows what s/he is doing right on the spot.
Walt

Dear Dr. Stoll,
Wow! Thanks so much for such a fast reply!
We live in Glenn Dale, Maryland, very close to Washington, DC. If you can refer me to someone, I'd be grateful.
Regarding the "no red cells in urine, just blood" - the doctors said that Christopher's kidney is not bleeding/damaged thus no red cells,
rather, the kidney was filtering out the hemaglobin attacked by his own immune system. The cold antibodies are destroying his hemaglobin as if it were a virus.
Sorry I am not more knowledgeable, we have to think up the questions before they offer ANY insights, explanations.
Thanks for your time and advice, and concern.
Anne

Dear Dr. Stoll,
After browsing through your web pages again for the past 2 hours, I should add the following info. to my reply:
The whole family has JUST completed a three month course of parasite cleansing herbs. They cleared up his pinworms, and it specifically gives directions on usage for those with candida yeast.
Perhaps the parasite cleanse didn't truly work, but the colon cleanse sure did.
Thanks again,
Anne

Hi, Anne.
This kind of hemoglobinuria (NOT blood in the urine) is a LOT more serious than having "blood in the urine".
Call James Gordon, MD at (202) 966-7338. Be sure to tell him that I suggested you call. Tell him the problem & have him suggest the local doc you need to see. Jim is an internationally known pioneer in the medicine of the 21st century but he is likely not the doc you need for this.
He, however, would know every practitioner in the area & be able to direct you to the right one. He may even have to see the records & the child once before knowing who should see him.
In the meantime, follow your present doc's advice (even though he is not being up front with you about how serious this is). Get copies of ALL his medical records at home and take them for your consultation with the complementary doc.
Let us know what you learn and GOOD LUCK!
