Dr. Stoll:
Can microwaved food cause cancerous growths?
Thank You,
Pam
[Excerpt: Hidden Hazards of Microwave Cooking
http://www.mercola.com/article/microwave/hazards.htm]
Ten Reasons to Throw out your Microwave Oven
From the conclusions of the Swiss, Russian and German scientific clinical studies, we can no longer ignore the microwave oven sitting in our kitchens.
Based on this research, we will conclude this article with the following:
1). Continually eating food processed from a microwave oven causes long term
- permanent - brain damage by "shorting out" electrical impulses in the brain [de-polarizing or de-magnetizing the brain tissue].
2). The human body cannot metabolize [break down] the unknown by-products created in microwaved food.
3). Male and female hormone production is shut down and/or altered by continually eating microwaved foods.
4). The effects of microwaved food by-products are residual [long term, permanent] within the human body.
5). Minerals, vitamins, and nutrients of all microwaved food is reduced or altered so that the human body gets little or no benefit, or the human body absorbs altered compounds that cannot be broken down.
6). The minerals in vegetables are altered into cancerous free radicals when cooked in microwave ovens.
7). Microwaved foods cause stomach and intestinal cancerous growths [tumors]. This may explain the rapidly increased rate of colon cancer in America.
8). The prolonged eating of microwaved foods causes cancerous cells to increase in human blood.
9). Continual ingestion of microwaved food causes immune system deficiencies through lymph gland and blood serum alterations.
10). Eating microwaved food causes loss of memory, concentration, emotional instability, and a decrease of intelligence.
Have you tossed out your microwave oven yet?
After you throw out your microwave you can use a toaster oven as a replacement. It works well for most and is nearly as quick.

Thanks, Pam.
I do not doubt one thing in this list. Most people would prefer convenience to a healthy life so it will take a lot more information than this to change people's minds.
Cynical me!

Do these even occur with defrosting?

Dr. Stoll:
I have changed my diet since I have been reading this board. I have also been trying to figure out how I can cook food differently, too.
I've been thinking about buying a steamer or wok for vegetables. But, then I am unsure about which oil would be best to use. I quit using my microwave, and have been eating more raw foods.
My son ask me about why he is overweight, and I said he was eating yeast in pizza and white bread and then drinking pop (sugar) which made the yeast grow, causing him to be overweight and bloated.
If you have any suggestions on how I can cook foods, and what oils to use, please let me know.
Thanks,
Pam

Hi, Jennifer.
I do not think that studies have been done with defrosting.
All the ones I have seen are with totally cooked substances.
If you learn differently let us know.

Try this:
Put a bit of bottled water in a pan to "steam" corn (or cauliflower, broccoli, etc.) It doesn't take any longer on top of the stove than it does in the micro. Organic frozen corn, especially super sweet, tastes just like it does straight off the cob. The little steamer baskets work good too, and you don't need a special pan...just use it in what you have.
For chicken, even frozen, just cook it in a bit of water (maybe 4 tablespoons) in a frying pan, right on the cook top. Add some lemon pepper, or other herbs. Cook on medium heat for about 2o minutes and keep adding bits of water as needed...again, it cooks just as fast as the microwave does it. If you want strips slice the chicken half way through the cooking process.
Buy one of those little ceramic stove top grills (they don't cost much at all) and grill chicken, burgers, whatever. They are great, clean up well, and store easily.
When I cook meat, I always cook extra portions for leftovers. It reduces the urge to microwave a quick meal. Leftover meat I add to a salad if I'm in a hurry. Same with hardboiled eggs..I cook at least 4 or 5 extra.
Using a grill for meat, and steaming veggies will eliminate the need for cooking oil. Olive oil is your best bet (I think)if you need to cook with an oil, but it is either an acquired taste or I just don't like it at all.
