I've been having low back pain for months now. Has anyone out there tried magnets to relieve pain? Please post any experiences/testimonials as I'm pretty skeptical, but almost to the point that I'll try anything that can't hurt/might help.

"I'll try anything that can't hurt/might help"
Then why don't you try skilled relaxation?

I dunno, maybe because this is what she decided to try first. Why not let her instead of parroting the party line?

Yes, I am an RN, and have lots of experience with using magnets. I have a debilitating condition, and was almost crippled several years ago, and they have made a world of difference. I also have used them a lot for people with back problems. Feel free to contact me at HealthEnhance@aol.com

Maybe she does not know about SR which would be much more effective in the long run. I could care less what she chooses to use or do, therefore I am not letting or preventing her from doing anything. But, why is my suggestion any less than what yours was? Feeling hostile today?

How do the magnets help ?

I think that just about anything that a person has faith will help them, will indeed help them. Keeping the faith is the hard part.

This is what she posted with the heading Magnet Therapy:
"I've been having low back pain for months now. Has anyone out there tried magnets to relieve pain? Please post any experiences/testimonials as I'm pretty skeptical, but almost to the point that I'll try anything that can't hurt/might help."
Where in there do you see it says - Gregory only, please respond? When someone posts on the board, it is pretty much open for anyone to answer, so in my opinion, it was an invitation for my input as well as yours and anyone else.
I said I could care less what she CHOOSES to use, but I feel that my suggestion was just as valid as yours. You tried to portray me as not "let"ting her try the magnets, that wasn't my suggestion at all. My only suggestion was "Why don't you try SR?". I didn't say ONLY try SR, ignore the magnets. You really are trying to twist my words and communication all out of proportion to mean something they don't.
There was no need to attack me for suggesting skilled relaxation. It works for me and others and I thought it was valid in her case.

I should have said before that I started a serious wellness plan in March including a whole foods diet (excluding wheat, dairy, and sugar) and incorporating skilled relaxation into my daily routine; this all to control my RA. I am still taking methotrexate, but am off the prednisone and celebrex -- and I truly believe I'm on the road! BUT I've had this back pain since the beginning of the year, and it's only getting worse.

Hi Gregory,
Thanks for your response -- I really felt like a dummy for not trying the search engine first! You're always helpful.

Wow! Congratulations. I think that's wonderful you are on the road. Incidentally, have you had your low back pain diagnosed? It is not always due to spinal, joint or muscle problems. Go to the link I've posted below and read the first paragraph. It can tell you of all the things that can cause an onset and worsening of low back pain.

SR it's a damn good thing that you do SR because, just like me, you let things get to you. For every 20 minutes you spend mad you have to spend two minutes feeling good and the negative can build up real quick. I've still got a hundred hours to go if I can keep from backing up by letting things make me want to run away. And damn I want to run away most of the time.

I know some celebrities report they have gotten results with this. Maybe worth a read.
Good Luck

I am sorry that you feel this way. Your post touched me, how you spoke about running away from it all. Thats my exact feelings, but you know what, with SR, it helps so much. But its a matter of staying disciplined. Also do something that gives you real passion in life. Whatever that may be for you. It doesnt have to be something where you make money from it. Most importantly do something that makes you feel alive and glad to be alive, even if its just for a short while. A kind of reprieve from "reality".
What is it that you want to run away from? In fact, running away doesnt actually work. i have tried it myself and you just get to be miserable in better surroundings, but you still have the same inner problems to deal with.
I hope you find what you are looking for. My heart went out to you today and I couldnt stop thinking about your words and the pain behind them.
Best wishes and You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I wore a magnetic neck band for a while but it looked so stupid that I really didn't care if it helped or not.
This is "just my 2 cents" (bing) but Skilled Relaxation sessions are quickly becoming my very favorite times of the day. They are the quickest 20 minute periods of a day and the only times when I can truthfully say that I am 100% pain free. I'm not a big party line follower but I'm in lockstep on this issue.
