So, I'm watching Fox news today (not the news channel, but the regular 6 o'clock news on Fox) and they had this story about chronic footpain in diabetics. In a double-blind test, proven absolutely conclusively, NOT A PLACEBO EFFECT, a team has discovered that shoe insoles made of MAGNETS (that's right, something we've all been told is a big joke!) actually works in eliminating the most severe pain (apparantly, diabetics have several kinds of pain).
This makes me think of the Magnet Bracelet that people made fun of me over when I broke my wrist!
Or what about this Alex Chiu guy? People have been making fun of him now for a few years on the internet and, yeah, he's claiming some out there stuff, but then again, check out the testimonials... or do a Google search to find people talking about him OUTSIDE of his website.
I have some skin problems which I am now wondering if this therapy would actually cure. So far, it seems that his products work on everything from acne to cancer! In case the above HTML link didn't work, here it is again: http://www.alexchiu.com/affiliates/clickthru.cgi?id=nsnyder

I'm not a spammer. After seeing the story on Fox News,
I remembered the Alex Chiu site (he was recently on
the Daily Show with Jon Stewart and I remember him
being the subject of much internet ridicule).
So, I Google searched "magnet ring immortality"
because I had forgotten Alex's name. I found the site
and was about to plunk down $25 for a pair of rings
when I noticed he GIVES all his stuff away for FREE.
If you ask me, that's admirable. The guy apparantly
breaks even each month. Which would make sense
because since I've posted this to a total of 6 boards this
evening, I've already received 60 click-throughs! I only
need 80 for a pair of free rings.
So, not only should you be interested in this "SPAM", but
you should also start doing it yourself. Why on earth
anyone would BUY a set of rings when they can do
what I'm doing is beyond me.
If I DO get the free rings (and I'm guessing I will, since it
seems he is actually on the level, despite his --- how
shall I say -- remarkable claims), and they DO indeed
work for me (I have yet to discover), I will certainly plunk
down some cold hard cash for his more expensive foot
bracelets (unless I somehow miraculously get 600
click-throughs or whatever it is-- I'm not going to work
that hard at posting on message boards if I can just buy
them).
The magnetic wrist bracelet I bought a while ago was
about $10 and I'm sure it was just cheap magnets
because I bought them at CVS. If these things work,
this is a great way to try them out FOR FREE to start
with.
Sorry if you're offended. No doubt you think this is
"quack medicine", but like I said, I just saw a report on
this today (well, yesterday now) May 5, 2003 on Fox
News.

How is it "spam" to promote a site which offers FREE magnetic rings and foot bracelets?
First of all, I made no effort to disguise that this is a click-through link. Just look at what I posted:
http://www.alexchiu.com/affiliates/clickthru.cgi?id=nsnyder
See? Click through! If you've read my last two posts, you know why I'm posting this. I don't want to pay $25 for a pair of magnetic rings. It's that simple.
If you've ever wondered about magnet therapy, this is a great way to get FREE rings. (I guess. I haven't received mine yet. I'm 20 click-throughs away). The more people that click the links, the quicker I will get the rings and I'll be back to let you all know what I think.

Thanks, R. I'm on click # 73! This took me literally 4 or 5 hours of posting to 6 message boards and then coming back and checking every 20 minutes or so (or on occasion when I'd see the clicks go up very quickly, I would be excited enough to sit at the computer a bit longer).
All in all, this has been very easy. Although, time is money, I wouldn't say earning a pair of $25 rings in a night's work is too bad. I'd hate to spend $25 and be sorely disappointed. But, if these work, I believe I will give them to my girlfriend (who will most likely be skeptical) and order the 12x powered rings for $45.
I will definitely come back to tell you all what I think. I have just bookmarked this page. The website says 2-3 weeks for delivery. If the rings never come, you can bet I'll be back to tell you that, too!
Thanks again,
Nate

Hmmm... Yeah, I guess you're right and $25 isn't a
whole heck of a lot. Still, since last night, guess how
many clicks I received? I just checked and I'm at 125. I
might wait a few days to see if I reach 400 (just
because I got a lot more clicks a lot faster than I
originally thought I would).
For 400 clicks, you get 2 rings that are supposedly 12x
as powerful. If I don't make 400 clicks real quick,
though, I'll just get the $25 ones and like I said-- I'll be
sure to come back and tell you what I think.
My basic problems are:
1. Peeling fingertips and toes (toes I've had problems
with for years, but fingertips just happend last August).
Once my fingers started looking disgusting, I
researched online and discovered I am most likely in
need of Essental Fatty Acids (ELA, GLA and DHA, I
think). Anyway, I've been taking supplements for the
past several months and have seen some minimal
improvement (but not on my toes). I believe the
improvement just might be to the humidity in the air
now that Spring has sprung.
2. Oily skin on face, steady acne (though not severe or
extremely noticable, I always have at least 5 pimples or
whiteheads on my face). Oily face, dry hands? Give me
a break!
3. Insomnia, anxiety or hypertension
4. drained, tired frequently
5. a small gut that is impossible to lose- I once worked
out for a year intensively, got rather muscley and had a
"4 pack" stomach, but no matter what I did I could not
lose the little lump of fat at the bottom (not bad, just
annoying).
Obviously, these problems are caused by many factors,
including diet and environment, but I'm just curious to
see if these rings will help ANY of the above, especially
the skin problems, sleeplessness and anxiety.
I will be back! Thanks for all your clicks, people! I
appreciate it.

The 1Q99 winner is the home page of a fraudulent spammer passing off his
worthless items. This past quarter's winner, spammer and pseudoscience fraud
named Alex Chiu, won the 1Q99 survey with 49.47% of the votes, considerably
quarter's spamming sociopath due to the fact that this past quarter's survey
contained a wide range of equally horrid examples of humanity's dregs and
scum. This Nutcase of the WWW winner's web page contains a collection of
objects that are obvious frauds to most people with any sense of common sense
or knowledge of anatomy and science. Nevertheless, he continues to preach
and pawn his wortheless items via email and newsgroup spamming. This
unrepentant spamming and the ridiculous claims this person makes of his
items has made him the laughing stock of the spammer species. You can view
the web page belonging to the current Nutcase of the WWW at its current

ones covering foreign objects in dog feces, a serious claim that Smurfs are
all Communists, a paranoid schizophrenic and one idiot asking people to send
him money, showing that people clearly hate this fraudulent spammer more than
these other examples of human failures.

TROUBLE AT ARTBELL.COM
This preface just in case SOMEONE living in a cave wonders what I’m talking about. Loads of people follow Bell’s show, hooked on the psychotronic feast of wierdness he dishes out everynight over the airwaves and the internet. It’s a pretty damn entertaining show, regardles of how you feel about ghosts, time travel, ufos and Y2K.
Aside from loyal listeners and critics, the web site, at www.artbell.com is also a major magnet for oddballs, kooks and freaks of all shapes and sizes, spouting bizarre ideas, and in some cases, selling REALLY ODD products. Not all of them are freakish and wierd, but a few are FAR OUT.
One of these nutballs is/was a guy named Alex Chiu.
His claim was that by wearing his special patented magnetic bracelets, you could stop (or possibly reverse) the aging process. Here’s part of his claim. Please try not to laugh right out loud. “I can say that, based on my experience and many other's testimonies, I am 100% SURE THAT my rings and foot braces allow you to stay physically young FOREVER!” Those words were reprinted from his web age at alechiu.com. His page also has hilarious “proofs” listed as follows...again, PLEASE don’t choke laughing with your mouth full of milk, or bourbon or spam.
“If you still don't believe me, just call whole bunch of people. Call, Call, Call! Call Doug Fong at (415)664-6682 and ask him if I do look younger than before. Call Brandon at (415)665-8774 and ask him if I did look younger than before. Call Saji Restaurant at (415)931-0563 and ask for Mr. Hideki and ask if Alex Chiu did surprise him for looking at least 8 years younger within two years of time. Call my family at (415)578-8546 and talk to my step-mom and ask her if she did say that I looked a lot younger than few years ago.”
His web site was advertised on artbell.com for a while, and anyone who visited Chiu’s site with half a brain could see that the guy is out of his tree. His claims are completely moronic, his evidences even more so. Yet, he was able to advertise on artbell.com along with everyone else in the name of free speech and free enterprise. What the hey, his money was as good as anyone else’s, right? But there was trouble in paranormal-land. Fof a reason we may have missed, but aren’t privvy to now, Chiu’s advertising money suddenly became unwelcome at artbell.com. Perhaps it was because they couldn’t take Chui’s halfbaked crap anymore? Common sense would indicate that someone probably purchased the stupid bracelets. Then they realized how moronic the whole idea was and after trying them one last time, and NOT seeing the age wrinkles go away forever, complained. Here’s where the story gets REALLY INTERESTING. I guess Alex Chiu had basked in the glow of semi-legitimacy by being connected with Art Bell for so long that he felt he DESERVED to be advertised on the web site. He had a RIGHT, goddamnit! His first email to the webmaster, poor overworkd Keith Rowland, went like this:
From: "Alex Chiu" (alexycchiu2@earthlink.net) To: "Keith Rowland" (keithr@rowlandnet.com) Subject: Re: Place Ad Date: Fri, 7 May 1999 17:17:37 -0500
“I need a reply from you. Let's get this over with so I won't end up doing anything stupid like go down there and kill you or something. I know I have a future in front of me. But for some reason, I beleive you deserve to die, and someone has to do the right thing. You just reply me so that I live my life and have a future and you won't end up dead all of a sudden. I know I am crazy, but isn't everyone in the USA crazy? “
After this, Rowland took no chances, and rightfully told Chiu he was going to the FBI with the emailed death threat. Chiu’s bracelets weren’t going to help him fix his crazed thoughts, as the hilariously worded reply from Chiu to Rowland suggests:
From: "Alex Chiu" (alexycchiu2@earthlink.net) To: "Keith Rowland" (keith@rowlandnet.com) Subject: Re: Murder Threat From Alex Chiu Date: Sat, 8 May 1999 03:18:07 -0500
“ Fuck FBI. I will be the cop. I tell you I don't give a shit about law. DO YOU UNDERSTAND!? I REPEAT! I DON'T CARE ABOUT LAW! A MAN HAS GOT TO DO WHAT A MAN HAS GOT TO DO! I WILL KILL YOU. ONCE AGAIN. I AM SERIOUS ABOUT THIS! NO BULLSHIT AROUND! I DON'T EVEN CARE ABOUT MY FUTURE ANYMORE. WHY WOULD I CARE ABOUT FBI?”
Chiu’s stilted english and “net lamer all caps” approach makes his emails read like drug-crazed gibberish out of the mouth of a Hunter S. Thompson novel. Rowland says this all started when he refused to carry the Chiu ads, and adds that he had to wait until Chiu’s check had cleared the bank before giving a refund. At this stage, Chiu has, in psychological terms, become a complete raving fruitcake. We emailed Keith Rowland to ask him how he felt having to deal with retarded, possibly dangerous situations like these, but he never responded, probably thinking that we were the next step in the nutcase parade. After viewing our web page and reading our rantings, who could blame him? Since we began researching this article Art Bell has initiated a lawsuit against some of the wierdos using his name in a slanderous fashion. You can get updates at www.artbell.com
Artbell.com has had other woes Another bunch of nutters is claiming that Bell ran some kind of porno ring in the 70’s, and of course, the information is displayed all over a special web page. Fortuantley for the level-headed, mild mannered Bell, his employers are backing him up on the legal end, as the boobs trying to slander him have made a lot of unfortunate and libelous statements. The ordeal (which you can read for yourself at www.artbell.com) backs up our statements throught the zine, the Internet has fallen into the hands of sweating, all-capitals-using, fruit-pants-wearing wierdos like Alex Chiu. The net is dead if THIS shit goes unpunished.

The interviewer for this "interview" is nearly as bad an interviewer as Alex is a subject. He or she continually baits Alex, has an extremely poor grasp of the language, and spews far more invectives as Mr. Chiu.
The interviewer often goes off track completely and simply rants on some tangent or another. I cannot honestly say that the interview is enlightening, and it is fairly damaging to Slashdot's reputation, and journalistic integrity, what little of it they have.
It would be far more useful to research magnetic healing in general rather than to make it into a personality issue.

No? Thought so. Like I said, Alex Chiu has been the
subject of internet ridicule for years now. If he's been
doing this since 1988 and still doing it, I think it's a
good bet that he's fulfilling his end of the deal.
Also, offering free stuff isn't a bad thing. I now have 149
click-thoughs. I'm closer than I thought I'd ever be to the
12x rings.
Also, in case you didn't notice, Alex gives you online
instructions to MAKE YOUR OWN MAGNET DEVICES.
So, you can:
1. GET RINGS FOR FREE
2. MAKE THEM YOURSELF
3. BUY THEM
I'd say most people are doing 1 or 2. And you are clearly
doing neither, just scouring the web for Google
searches like "Alex Chiu scam". There isn't a lot about
him, considering how huge that website is.

I am just seeing if I can get the free rings. If not, I'll let

Not all bad,now is it? Nope, my one "spam" post was
just one little post offering free stuff or do-it-yourself

has really clogged up this board.

I am not considering Alex Chiu in light of his personality (unpleasant & arrogant), nor on his marketing techniques (amateur & sloppy), but rather on whether or not the devices work which is unrelated to the above concerns.
I have been using magnets for healing prior to learning about Alex Chiu, and truth be known, his devices are child's play compared to the things I am building. However my devices are
1. For my own use only.
2. Based on sound magnetic principles.
There are plenty of respectable scientific types who also run scams, the pharmeceutical companies come quickly to mind, but no one ridicules them.
Ever wonder why?
