I had a Reiki treatment done..this was my second. The first person who did this to me a few months ago did not use her hands on me...(she was a level 1)
The second person who did this, recently, is a master - and placed her hands directly on me.
I will admit the second felt very good - very peaceful...
the first was more "theatrical" with the woman "shoo-ing out" the negative energy and such...
BUT the original woman stated that Reiki is never "hands on" and always above the body.
Which is right? Are both?

Both are right. The greates amount of energy transfer takes place during hands on, period. Why it is considered "bad form"
is because the energy transfered, if done incorrectly, could actually be coming from the energy cache of the
person doing the hands on, rather than from the channel that they have opened from the source. Reiki and other
energy systems modify the person in such a way as to make it safe for them to act basically as "transformers"
stepping down spiritual energy into something usuable.
The problems come in when neophytes or those who have not been modified attempt the same thing. Whatt occurs then is
that person's energy is transferred to the person requiring the healing. This would happen anyway, as energy travels
from higher to lower on contact. Prolonged contact will, of course drain such a person to the point of fatigue.
Such a person will say that the person "receiving" the healing is "difficult" but the truth is that they are
not conversant in preparation, nor do they have the energetic mods to send (not "give") energy to another
person. Sending energy does not fatigue one, since it is not your own energy you are sending.
Some purist think that all energy work should be of the non-contact sort, but to be most effective, hands on is the way
to go.

Thank you for clarifying.
I find also that one person who did Reiki on me (the theatrical one) is jealous and giving little digs because I had someone else do Reiki on me. To be honest, I'm not that into it to care either way.... but it is something that does relax me, whether as a placebo effect or not, it does the trick.
Back to the envy...I read that Reiki practioners should never have envy or competitiveness....that it defeats the purpose of their energy...
In any case, I preferred the hands on approach.

The first one was more theatrical, having less to "offer." There is nothing theatrrical about energy transfer. It is
boring in the sense of seeing something as there is nothing to "see." It is all about how you feel during and after
that matters.

I have had two Reiki treatments(hands on) done by 3 of my dearest friends in the world. It was like heaven on earth. One in the group learned another tecnique( it's not Reiki) from an old vietnam War Veteran. He had learned it from Vietnamese where he actually draws out pain with his hands. He never touches you but his hands are very close. You can feel the pain drawing from your body. It's a lifesaver at times for tension headaches. Reiki is Japanese but this tecnique is(I suppose Chinese). Does it sound like the method that the first one did on you? Carol Y

Hi, Carol Y.
The reality of the technique is beyond question. Different cultures have come to it is different ways and call it different things. There are nearly infinite variations of the basic technique (even to the point of the preferences and personal experiences of the individual practioner) but all are drawing on the ultimate truth of the effect.
Hope this helps.
