the state of electromagnetic radiation research

Posted by news [22.137] on April 09, 2004 at 16:05:38:

Something interesting happened when a physicist ran a computer simulation of electromagnetic radiation affecting 2 red blood cells. The individual cells were not affected or damaged, but the forces that very mildly attract the two cells together increased when electromagnetic radiation was present. Radiation at cellphone frequency caused the forces to increase greatly.

The scientist thinks it is possible that this could cause clumping or squishing of blood cells. The shape and flow of blood cells is known to be important to the body-- sickle cell anemia is caused by having misshapen red blood cells, and poor circulation is a problem for some on this board.

This got me wondering exactly how personal magnets work. Does the magnet attract the electromagnetic radiation that might otherwise pass by and affect cells? Does it attempt to realign the water molecules according to another axis? Is this why weaker magnets are better, with some molecules aligning with a weak magnet and the rest aligning with the electromagnetic flavors of the day?

Thanks, News.

No one with even a modicum of understanding of the electromagnetic nature of man, could doubt that electromagnetic smog (individually) has a logarithmically magnifying effect upon our burden of chronic stress-effect.

Thanks Gregory. I have read the magnet archives and am now interested in the possible mechanisms of electromagnetic interaction on a deeper level.

Given that men first believed the effects of electromagnetic radiation on the body were zero, then one (general harm), then two (and general well-being), I feel it would be highly presumptuous of me to assume that we know all the answers with regard to this field. Showing how EMR affects mankind is the key to getting consensus (from skeptics and the uninformed) that it does affect mankind.
