Electrical Sensitivity

Posted by Matt [1197.3215] on December 26, 2006 at 15:47:07:

I know that Chemical Sensitivity is a pretty well established topic on this board and in the archives, but sometimes I hear about Electical Sensitvity as well. Apparently the idea is that the electric fields everywhere, inside and outside, can make you ill. Do any of you have any experience with this problem, and / or have an opinion on it? I don't really need another thing to be paranoid about (Chemical Sensitivity makes you paranoid enough), but I'm curious to see what everyone thinks about Electrical Sensitivity, especially Walt.

In "Recapture Your Health" electromagnetic fields are listed as a
modern day "stressor."

Andrew Weill MD addressed electrical fields on one of his video tapes-said you shouldn't have electrical stuff, like a plug in radio, around the head of your bed.

Hi Matt,

I'm interested in this subject too. I just did a google and 72,100 articles came up. Maybe something will be of interest to you. If you find anything out worth mentioning, let us know.

Also, I do remember Dr. Stoll saying that if one's immune system is weak, they are more susceptible. Now real surprise there!

Street lights often go out when I drive by. Does that count?

In all seriousness, tho, read some of Robert Becker's work (e.g. The Body Electric or Cross-Currents). He has some interesting ideas on just how much the human body is affected by electricity.

Later,

Hi Ann,

A new variable has come into the picture due to
energy conservation and higher electricity rates...
(They don't tell you about this when they brag about
compact fluorescent lighting.)

The use of compact fluorescent light bulbs has brought the electrical interferrence that we experience at
the typical office... right into the bedroom or reading lamp.

If you doubt the interferrence, just tune a portable radio to an AM station near the low end of the band and bring it close to a compact fluorescent light bulb.
Then compare that to what is heard with a normal incandescent light bulb.

If you are an FM radio listener, you are being shielded from the truth but not from the interferrence.

One other reason that Incandescent light is useful (especially in the colder months) is... incandescent bulbs give off 80% of their inefficiency in the form of heat.. so your furnace will run a bit less often. A cold room with a half dozen pot lights in the ceiling will be a lot warmer, so you may not have to set your thermostat quite so high.

Hi Colin,

They do that for me too...

The fact is that they do it for everyone and they do it for NO ONE. (stop reading NOW if you enjoy worying)

You will notice the phenomena far more in the colder months and also because you are driving more often when they are on in the early evening..
If you come home at 5 PM in the summer, these lights are not on... but at 5 PM in the winter they usually are.
Next time it happens, STOP and wait 2 minutes for the bulb to cool off...
If you are driving under it, I understand that stopping is a problem... so take more WALKS and you will see the same thing as Low Pressure Sodium bulbs go off and on.
Eventually, they will age sufficiently to stay off.
Call your city lighting department and ask that they change that bulb before it stays off permanently and becomes a safety hazard.

They have a protective thermostat in the starter circuit that prevents fires, so don't be blaming the "Greys" for trying to get your attention.
People who write books on the occult are rarely very technical but they are quick to grasp onto anything that supports their way of looking at the world.

Relax... YOU ARE NO(r)MAL... or suffer from "NO-MAL-ady"

If you would rather "BELIEVE" and enjoy worrying about it, then you should have stopped reading this long ago.

Well, there was one night where I drove past 4 lights in a row in a public parking lot and each went off as I passed. Kind of funny. :-)

I was joking about my mysterious ability to turn off street lights, but not so much about the effects of electromagnetic radiation on the body. After reading Becker, I tend to believe that the latter is quite possible, even likely.

Hi Colin,

Four in a row would have made me give the matter some thought too.
Now, if you can go back there a couple more nights and get the same result on your video camera,
you could put that on Youtube with some certainty that
it would be taken seriously.

Good luck..

I won't have fluourescent lights in the house- I believe they cause skin cancer.
Furnace? What furnace? Here in the SW, we don't have central heat. I have electric oil-filled radiators for the kids' rooms and those little box blower heaters for the bathrooms to prevent pipes freezing. Also quilts and sweatshirts.

look into a concept of people being called 'indigos' if they have an effect on electrical stuff. Myself, I can't wear an old-fashioned wind-up spring watch- they stop working.

Thanks, Matt.

Currently there are more than 200,000 separate artificially generated electrical frequencies in our environment--each of which can be tested to promote a biofeedback demonstrated stress effect! When more than one is applied at the same time, they are shown to have a logarithmic increase in effect--not just an additive effect. One can only try to imagine what 200,000+ stresses can do to us.

It is the total stress burden that is causing the present "stress epidemic". Read MAH,MAS.

This comment really isn't meant to sound sarcastic, but isn't this board helping contribute to it then? We're all in front of computers emitting frequencies, and monitors too, and some of us are connected to wireless internet as well. Yet this board is extremely helpful to a lot of people at the same time.

I guess what I am wondering is: where do we draw the line in terms of what electrical products we should use and which we should avoid?

Also..

I broke out in a rash every time I used a copy machine for a couple of months when I was at my worst. Read chapter 6 in Recapture Your Health, it talks about it. Thanks for bringing this up, I think I'll look that chapter over.

Well the copy machine may have been a bunch of other things besides an electrical sensitivity problem. Being someone with MCS, I assume you know that copiers give off a lot of ozone (that smell that copiers make). Not to mention the plastics that heat up, and the toner smell.

Yup! Matt.

As I have said many times on this BB: The answer to all this stress burden is mostly improving our horsepower to deal with it since we cannot really avoid the massive overload of environmental stressors.

Hope this helps.

Walt
