I was put on the pill at the age of 17 because of an ovarian cyst and am now 21. I've recently decided to come off of it because after finding out what it does to your body to stop you from getting pregnant I didn't like the sound of it. Then my girlfriend wanted to go on it, and I tried to tell her not to, but since I'm not a doctor, I didn't know how to make my argument against it sound convincing. Can you give me some facts against taking the pill? And, then, after she went to her gyn, she suggested to her to go on the deprovera shot. Her doctor told her that it was better than the pill since you take it once every three months and that because of that you're not screwing with your body. What are your thoughts on this shot? And, what do you think is the best form of birth control other than not having sex?

i personally think any form of birth control thats putting hormones into ur body is a bad choice. theres many risks of deprovera and b.c's. the worst case: blood clots, stroke, heart attack, hair lost, etc. try condoms w/ spermicide. thats the best form of preventing pregnancy w/out putting unwanted chemicals in your body. hope i helped.

Think carefully before considering the Deprovera. A good friend of mine suffered horrible consequences from this drug. She suffered terrible depression, which took over a year and a half to recover from. After she told me about the effects of that drug, it put me off it for life as I had been considering going onto it.
It may not happen to u, but better to be forewarned.

Hi, Jennifer.
In MY opinion, the doc who recommended the shot is a quack!
This shot has a lot more dangerous side-effects than the pill ever did.
It's only recommendation is that it is less bother (for some people) to take a shot every 3 months than to take a pill every day.
Condom is nearly as effective as the pill as is the diaphragm and jelly combination. However, nothing is 100% so anyone having sex has to be ready to cope with the rare pregnancy.
Nothing (no contraceptive) and using abortion within the first trimester is statistically the safest thing.
