Dr. Stoll
Please Help. My mother is 83 yrs. old. We moved her to and senior apartment independent living. She was confused. Dr. took her off Lorazpam.o5 she had been on for over 20 years. After about 5 weeks her memory has cleared up and walking has improved. Doctor doesn't think it is alzhemier. SHe is still forgetful. Doesn't eat right and says she doesn't sleep over 3 hours a night. Her doctor has her on 2 Kava and 1 Bendyrl for rest at night. We think if she would eat regular meals most of her problems would lessen. She has no hobbies she only wants to be on the go. She drove and was gone everyday of her life until the move. She is unsure of herself as to getting lost plus the weather is so bad now we are not encouraging her to drive. 5 days out of 7 she is out with friend or one of us. I think she is depressed. Where she is now living one meal a day is served. But again if someone says lets go she will not eat but take off. Do you have any suggestions and advice on this matter

Hi, Joye.

First, ANY responsible person would tell you that your mother SHOULD NOT BE DRIVING.

Next, while preserving HER life (as well as that of others on the road) I would recommend improving the chemical efficiency of the brain cells not already dead.

There are several books out that do just that and I would have you start with "Nutrition & The Mind" by Gary Null, PhD. Any healthfood store would have copies.

Once you get her started on what it seems is appropriate--after you have THAT information under your belt--you should have her see a good Cranial Osteopath in consultation (call (317) 594-0411 for a listing of the closest Certified Cranial Osteopaths in her area). A few sessions would likely improve the delivery of essential nutrients TO the brain and you would start to see some improvements in a few weeks.

THEN, if you still have questions, write again. As she improves I hope you will share her progress with the rest of us here on the BB. Others have these same problems and deserve to know that the conventional medical paradigm has nothing to offer this condition AND that there ARE options that WILL help a lot with no risk to the person.

Walt

Dr. Stoll
She had had a very vivid dream that it took awhile for her to sort out. Took her to a new doctor who preformed several test. She was dehydrated, sinus infection and a very severe kidney infection. Anyone of these could cause confusion in the elderly. Doctor said for her age 83 the memory problems were not unusual and that anyone of the 3 items wrong plus poor nutrition would cause confusion. She is on cipro, VItamin e, folic acid , b vitamins , calcium, zinc with plenty of fluid and the supplement drink Ensure. Confusion is much better after 3 days of this. I have also added gingko but she experiences some dirrahea with this. I will keep you posted.
