Hi Walt,
I've read all your comments on hormone replacement in the archives. I went through early menopause at age 37 and have been on and off HRT for 6 yr, but the side-effects get too be too much. Jan 31 I started on the new Combipatch (50 estradiol/norethindrone acetate 140). I am having my fourth period since then and each time the flow becomes heavier. I'm assuming its the progesterone doing this. I know you recommend conjugated estrogen o.3 mg and no progesterone, but I can't find a doctor that will prescribe estrogen without progesterone. Last year the doctor told me my ovaries totally shut down and I wouldn't have a period even if I took progesterone, but I had to take it anyway. Now, here I am having period after period. I'm waiting for the nurse to call me back, but they take their time about it. What should I do and why can't I tolerate HRT?
Thanks Walt.

Linda,
Have you read "What your Dr won't tell you about menopause" by John Lee or "Passage to power" by Leslie Kenton. Either of these books would give you some different information that you may find helpful.

Hi, Linda.
Within 10 years, the routine prescription of progesterone with estrogen will no longer be done. You need to find a physician for whom thinking is not too painful an exercise.
Next: Who told you that "your ovaries had completely shut down and so progesterone would not produce bleeding"? It is the hormones that the uterine lining responds to and one can have both ovaries surgically removed and still produce regular cyclic bleeding with oral hormones. There must have been a miscommunication OR the professionals you are going to are incompetent. I hope it is the former.
When people take their time calling you back, it usually is because they don't know what to tell you.
From what you are saying, you are probably going to have to have a D&C from what the combination of hormones you have been taking has already done to you.
