Dr. Stoll,
It is very painful for me to insert a tampon, has been for years. Do you have any idea why this could be? It hurts pretty far up inside upon insertion. Thank you for your time!

Hi, MP.
If I could examine you, I would know immediately.
ANY competent gyn could do the same.
The most common cause is habitual perineal muscle clenching. Depending on your age, inadequate vaginal secretion could be a cause. Strange uterine placement would be WAY down the list and would be easily detected by the exam I described above.

Hi Dr. Stoll.
Thanks for your response. Well, no gyn. has ever mentioned anything looking abnormal, so it must be the muscle clenching. Must be total body bracing again! Adequate secretion is definitely not a problem, in fact, I think I have more than enough! Thanks. I'll keep doing SR and see what happens. :)

Does it hurt right from the get go? Or when the tampon gets all the way up there? It could be that you, like a lot of women, have a very sensitive cervix and that the tampon butting into the cervix upon insertion is the pain that you feel. I have the same thing.

I had the same problem as Shannon. When it hit against my cervix it hurt. I asked many doctors through the years why, but they never could tell me (they were military doctors though, which explains alot). I did have a tipped uterus, but only found that out when I finally happened to go to a civilian gynecologist.
I ended up having a hysterectomy about 10 years ago (unrelated to the above problem), so I never did find out what had caused that pain.

Sorry--haven't been here in a few days! It hurts all the way up there--not upon insertion. If I use those little OB buggers it's much better, as they're not as long. Did you ever find out why it was hurting you? Thanks, Sara, Shannon and Walt for your posts! MP

That sounds to me like you have a very sensitive cervix, and the long tampons are "butting" into it when you insert them.
