Why is it that I eat healthy things and work out 1-2 hours a day, do SR, take supplements, use only natural cleaning products, etc and I still have MCS and LGS, hypothroidism, weight gain etc?
Now my boss can eat bagels with jelly every morning, cake for lunch, chainsmoke and drink, never exercise, and is slim and healthy. It's just not fair.
Is it just genetic?
Is it because I was born 2 months premature?
Is it because I was fed formula as a baby?
Is it because I grew up next to a chemical plant?
Is it because I grew up eating pop tarts and Kraft macaroni and cheese?
Why do some people have to work so hard just to break even?

Hi Why:
I wish I knew the answer. I have a friend who chain smokes, eats junkfood and still manages to stay slim. I cringe when I see her put that white, artificial creamer in her coffee.
My mother always says that those are the kind of people who drop dead all of a sudden because they've had no warning that their health was deteriorating.
I guess we should consider ourselves "lucky" when we get sick. This way we can do something about it. Those poor, "healthy" souls don't know what hit them when the time comes. I honestly don't know who's better off - them or the "sickies." Personally, I'm staying on the health path. Can't take any chances.

It will explain why some people are just healthier than others...it's probably a little because of all those things you listed...
And, as my dad always said, "Nobody said it was gonna be fair."
Luckily, you have this board and more knowledge about how to help yourself than most people will ever have!
Keep your spirits up and keep on doing healthy things for yourself and you will get healthier.

I often wondered that myself. I guess it's just one of those cases where "life isn't fair". It just comes down to what you were blessed with. I may not have been the smartest person, or the person with the highest IQ in my graduating class in high school - but I made up for whatever IQ I lacked with hard work, and I got to be #2 in the class. The same goes for health. I may have to work a little harder to be healthy, but I can be just as healthy as the next person. What I have found is that it doesn't do any good to mourn what we were born with. Just assess the situation and then do what needs to be done in order to lead a happy life. Good luck to you. =)

Look you guys, it's impossible to measure how much stress one person has compared to another, or when that stress is going to hit the fan. Just because your bagel eating, chain smoking friends seem ok now, doesn't mean that down the road they won't get sick from something terrible like lung or colon cancer. You are the lucky ones! You found out how to take care of yourselves when your problems are relatively easy to cure. I'm very glad I got Grave's disease. When I bring myself back to health, healthly is what I will stay!

I think growing up next to a chemical plant and your drinking water resources have a lot to do with your problems now. Have you researched taking the product modifilan? I would pose this question to HY (Helping You) if you are interested. It supposedly will help eliminate toxic metals from your body.
Here is my husband's daily menu:
Breakfast: cold cereal and two donuts
lunch: fast food (burger or tacos or pizza)
afternoon snack: chocolate (candy bar or kisses)
dinner: chips and a TV dinner or pizza
nite time snack: cereal or donut or ice cream
He has eaten this EVERY single day since I have known him, except for holidays when the fast food places are closed and he would feel guilty for not trying his mom's turkey, etc. He is considered a type B-C personality.
He claims he is healthy because he works out every day. He has only been sick ONCE since I have known him - 14 years! He looks wonderful and very fit. He does work out every day, no matter what. I think he is on the extreme high end of the bell curve of wellness.
I cook wonderful healthy foods every day but he won't eat that "crap"! Homemade chicken soup that has simmered about 10 hours, vegetable soup, etc. - he won't even try any of these things. Cultured european butter on Ezekiel bread...mmmmm, fruit smoothies, DHA enhanced eggs.
I will for sure write the boards if/when he comes down with some dreaded disease, or cancer, or heart disease.

CT, that was extremely hilarious. I don't know how old he is, maybe this will catch up to him when he's fifty. And then again I've seen many of those octogenarians hanging on to their bad habits to the end.

i believe its the boss eating bagels with jelly in front of you. first, that's disgusting. second, he is slim while doing this and that consumes lots of YOUR vitamin C. These people require a lot more supplementation in the people around them. just my theory.
:)

If your husband doesn't appreciate your fine cuisine, I would happily eat his portion. I work and all my husband ever serves for dinner is hamburgers, steaks, ribs, roasts, etc.

Hi why,
I think you're the lucky one. You're learing about health, about how to take care of yourself and about how to be sensitive to your body's needs.
It's a common occurrance for people like your boss to all of a sudden, one day, have huge health problems and it takes them totally by surprise. Then often they can't do anything about it because they have spent a lifetime creating unhealthy habits, and a sudden change to a healthy lifestyle can be really difficult or even impossible for them to achieve.
I hope you can learn to appreciate taking good care of yourself as a hobby or a wonderful thing to do rather than work. In my opinion, eating healthy things is one of life's greatest pleasures. So is exercising.
Best wishes,
Happygal

...but not quite there yet. The sad thing is that he thinks since HE is "healthy" and doesn't get sick, his son can have these things, too!
I left him all alone Saturday morning with HIS son for 2 hours because HIS son was bouncing off the walls, yelling, angry, etc. His breakfast that dad fed him?? Sunny Delite (10% juice and mostly sugar) plus donuts.
Update here: HIS son is now sick with a terrible head cold!
I am told I am ruining HIS sons enjoyment of food because I don't allow all the "fun" things. I am SUCH a mean mommy!
Now, MY son eats the following: broccoli and cauliflower either steamed or raw, any other raw veggies with something to dip them in, fruit smoothies (with vitamins and Udo's oil conveniently hidden in the mixture)cheeseburgers that I make, and of course my fabulous soups. Everything organic and delicious. Oh yeah - fresh from the farm goat's milk. (interesting story there).
Same son, diferent temperament, different days, depending on who gets to him first with food!

I set my alarm for midnight so I could finish my fabulous chicken soup stock.
Maybe one of these days we'll be able to send an aroma over the internet! Considering viewer phones were strictly science fiction when I was growing up, that technology could happen ;)

Thanks, ~CT.
You might get your husband a copy of the book by the guy that made long distance running popular as a health modality. I wish I could remember his name. He, too, put all his eggs in the same basket and ate whatever he wanted. He died young of a massive heart attack!
Ask anyone who is a runner and they probably would remember him. When you learn it please remind me of his name and I will write it down.

Walt,
It's Jim Fixx, and we have his book. (My husband is a runner.)

Well, maybe your son will get a little older and make responsible choices for himself. We can only hope. But please let us know if your husband crashes at some point. Tell him he'll get a lot of support on Walt's Board. If you ever feel like telling us the goat story, I'm sure we'd like to hear it.
