Hi shannon,
Do you mean improve your metabolism? Aerobics exercise is really great for that.
Best wishes,

Shannon,
This is a subject I am very interested in, but for all the topics that are discussed here, this one seems to get the shaft, when it's discussed in a general way. Anyway, I don't have an answer for you about metabolism building foods, but I have heard of this soup that's made with cabbage and other ingredients that is supposed to burn things up very quickly. Evidently it's prescribed to patients that need to loose weight in a hurry.
Also, I believe much of it has to do with knowing one's metabolic type and blood type. They determine what kinds of foods works best for a person. You might look in the archives here for references to metabolic typing and Robert Mcferrin's diet.
Also, stomach acid plays a role in how well things are metabolized. If you have low acid, there are some things you can do to supplement that process.
And as HappyGal said, exercising really helps. I start off my day with a 30 minute brisk walk, and I can't tell you what a difference that makes in how well I am burning my food!
Good luck Shannon

No foods naturally speed up your metabolism.
You need to eat foods that are appropriate for your individual metabolism and all will be well. Listen to curious as well, and do a little reading in the archives about metabolic diets or go to this website that explains some different dietary theories.
Exercise will help you keep all your systems moving.

Thanks, Curious.
Perhaps we have been avoiding discussing metabolism because our concepts are changing so rapidly that most of us have come to realize that we really have been, and still are, in the dark about this incredibly complex mechanism. The best we can do, with current concepts, is to do what you have: use exercise and other wellness concepts, to help our wonderful machine that Mother Nature gave us, to manage our metabolism optimally.

Thanks Walt. You don't know how refreshing it is to hear someone, let alone a doctor, say "I don't know". It's so much better to have honesty, and we can all explore this process together. I'm try really hard to work with the limitations of my little machine, and so far I am enjoying wonderful progress.
