anyone help - carbo cravings

Posted by Barb on October 07, 2001 at 16:42:46:

I have been on the Candida diet since March and I have been
feeling great. I havent had any cravings since being on this diet. This week I started having carbo cravings.
The thing that changed in my life was I added aerobic
exerciseing in addition to my walking. I do an hour
5 days a week. Would this cause the carbo cravings.
Is there something I can do for this? I DONT want to start
binging. Anyone with some ideas?

Yes! Since you are doing more exercise, your body requires more glucose which is easily converted from carbohydrates. The answer for you is to increase your consumption of Fats. Glucose can be made from fats and protein. This is why our ancestors, on a diet of meat, fish, game, organ meats, vegetbales, fruits, nuts, insects, tubers, could maintain glucose levels in the brain.

In case you have a problem with this, remember that the SOURCE of the carb is more important than the carb itself. Increase consumption of vegetables, nuts, legumes or sprouted-grain breads. This SHOULDN'T give you problems on an anti-yeast diet as long as you are taking antifungals and/or probiotics and staying away from refined sugars like I know you are :-) Take care!

Congratulations, Barb.

Listen to Helping You. This, too, shall pass. However , it would be better if you started your aerobics at 20 minutes 3 times a week and gradually worked up to an hour 5 days a week over a year or so.

Remember, the most benefit per expenditure of time (aerobics) is from 20 minutes 3 times a week anyhow.

Hope this helps. Let us know how you do.

Help! I'm desperate!! I'm addicted to carbs....

I feel like I'm addicted to refined carb food/sweets. I can stay away from refined carbs for just so long but then if I endulge it causes me to binge and I feel powerless. I don't eat huge amounts but will tend to eat the things I shouldn't daily. There is a website called "Radiant Recovery" whose developer claims if you eat a potato (including the skin) a few hours after your evening meal and its suppose to eventually change the chemistry in your brain so you don't crave carbs so much. She also advises eating brown rice vs. white rice, whole wheat vs. white bread etc. I tried this method for awhile and it didn't seem to help.
It seems like no matter how hard I try I always fail. Any other carb addicts out there that have found a way to stay off carbs successfully???

You said it yourself...if you indulge, you binge....so stay off the carbos and you won't binge :) Have the same problem. Do much better if I eat little or no carbos.

Often times, carb cravings are due to brain/chemical imbalances. If you find yourself craving chocolate often, you may not have enough serotonin in your brain. eating foods high in tryptophan can make a big difference. Cultured dairy products, eggs, and potatoes are just some of the sources of tryptophan. It doesn't mean to go binging on these foods but to incorporate a few of them into your diet would make sense. Eating these foods in the evening will induce a calm state of mind. Taking the supplement 5-HTP also converts to serotonin. just an idea!

The only way for me has been to stay away. All it takes is one little bite, and WHAM! the cravings are back. I try to treat my sugar addiction as an alcholic would alcohol. For some reassuring information, try www.radiantrecovery.com
